HiAce Engine Number

Hello everyone! desperate times right here, but I was hoping someone could help me locate the Engine Number for a 1999 HiAce. I am pretty clueless when it comes to cars, owner manual-less and have trawled the internet for hours for an answer and can't find one. Sorry to bother you!

Call VicRoads and ask nicely. All the Authorities have a list showing where the number is on every vehicle fitted with a compliance plate. They need the list to register vehicles quickly otherwise they too would have to search everywhere and it would take too long.

On a much earlier Hiace I found the compliance plate in front of and below the driver's seat. Basically behind the driver's knees. May still be there on 99 models.

EDIT - Just noticed you need engine number, not VIN. So my advice is of limited use.
