Not 100% but it looks pretty generic, probably a hyundai or mitsu jobbie from a 4G. A lot of hyundais run ~4G~ design motors with those looking DIS coils.

What is it for? I quite often buy them and some ignitors for people wanting to get rid of the distributor setup for higher rpm/dwell time.

not hyundai, they use bosch-style connectors for electrical supply to (waste-spark) coil packs.

Looks hyundai ish to me, connector looks identical, bottom of the coils look identical, ballasting looks identical (the small blak box), however the braket does look different.

I think mine was hyundai exell or lantra ~1994 work well on my car

they do look like hyundai coils, they are one peice tho aye ? , when i went though a pile of hyundai coils, there were that one peice type and the seperate twin coil type.

check primary and secondry resistance, and see if its within the hyundai spec (i cant remember what they are)

Places like petroject (automotice service solutions) can help you out here. Just go in and they have lots of DIS coils on the shelf. They sell the whole setup like pictured for about $120 dollars, and you simply get some dumb ignitors to mount near by and drive them.

Cheers for the help guys sorry for taking so long to respond

I am thinking of putting them into my GT4 which is running a freshly rebuilt 3sgte
The main reason I am thinking about it is because the standard coil just died but as Jason said there are other advantages as well, the coil dose look to be one unit with two separate coils joined by a heat sink kind of thing.

I am guessing that an aftermarket ECU will be required to run them?

    Cheers again

standard GT4 ignition can only drive a single-pole coil - those a waste-spark units and have to be directly hooked up to two plugs (that are 360 degrees apart in ignition timing). As you suspect, aftermarket ECU would be needed to drive them on a 3SGTE.

If you want to replace the stock coil, grab one from a 5SFE Camry or a 3SGE Celica.

fwiw: I've only seen hyundai's with either one coil or coil packs with connectors, not bolt-on connections underneath... but i'v never looked closely underneath them <blush>.
