here is mine 1JZVVTI in 1999 Hilux
Cobbled up ny own gearbox adapter and engine mounts . Used late model R151 with surf transfer case aluminium flywheel 10inch Hilux clutch Falcon pressure plate modified Rodeo aluminium radiator with fans mounted between radiator and air con condenser The air cleaner behind the battery came from a Suzuki ecu is mounted in the black box to the lower right of the picture custom ss exhaust system . Hilux came with fuel injected motor so had intank pump and wiring for ecu . Had to fit plugs to the 1JZ wiring to plug into existing Hilux wiring loom and wire in a few resistors to fool the ecu into thinking it still had an auto. No sump modifications to front sump . relocated steering damper radiator overflow and battery.Power steering hoses from 4cyl motor fitted to 1JZ pump no mods .Easy as

do all hiluxes have prettymuch the same sized engine bay? i'd LOVE to do one of these with a 2j, but budget would mean i'm stuck with a pre 90's item

r154 jz bellhousing bolt up to the 4wd box/transfer case with no problems? what about clearance to diff etc, & sump?

Hiluxes up to RN46 had shorter engine bays than later models
R154 bell will bolt up to R150 and R151 but you may have problems with input shaft length and throwout for clutch

Hey madmont how hard was the adapter plate from engine to box to make?

Was there much work involved in the engine mounts?

    Cheers

I built my bell housing from 2 bell housings , see picture. Not something I recommend for everybody. Engine mounts were easy a plate on motor another on the mount and a couple of plates between

if its 4Y should be a G52 just check on the ID tags in the engine bay if its a G52 then all you will need is a W JZ bellhousing...unsure of what clutch and pressure plate you need though

madmont that looks anything but "easy as" hahaha

2 bellhousings into 1? Was it hard to weld cast ally? Also how did you manage to align the input shaft and the spigot?
Are you a fabricator by trade?

    Cheers for sharing mate.

AS I said "not something I recommend for everybody"
alloy is easy enough to weld
This is what I used to help with alignment. The machined outer diameter fits in the round hole in the auto transmission bell housing and the hole fits on the bearing retainer which guides the throwout bearing . So long as everything is perfectly aligned when finished it will not jump out of 4th gear
