The factory EFI system is extremely simple, which is both good and bad. It's good in that it's easy to mess with it, and bad in that it's not very smart. In fact you could think of it as an electronic carbie - it sees X air and applies Y fuel, that's it.
Your biggest problem will be ignition control though. The 18R-GEU has a mechanical distributor, so getting any form of boost retard won't be easy. You could do the dodgy thing and wind the base timing way back, but obviously this isn't the best way of going about it.
Proper engine management is your friend when it comes to forced induction.
