RA23 (22/23/28) Window mechanism - Broke???

The scissor mechanism that raises and lowers the window in my drivers side door is dead.

The gear thing that attaches to the winder is dead, and the rollers are cactus too.

Are these things you replace new? or do I just get it out of another car?

and is it interchangible with another more common car?

I remember one breaking in my old 23. The tab that held the spring broke off. I was lucky to have another around and off i went.

not very helpful i know, But perhaps ra40's have a similar mechanism?

some times the rollers that run underneath the glass in the c shaped channel seize
it is not a hard fix
as the rollers for shower screens can be adapted to suit
only a few bucks from bunnings ,or the little bean shaped guides have come out of the track ,
its fiddly but fixable , worst case is the teeth on the winder mechanism strips , all you have to do is unpick the spot welds and replace the toothed sprocket from either a left hand winder or even a rear door one off a corolla they should be the same

But I can't unpick spot welds and then put them back in place. I run out of talent at that stage.

Can I salvage one from an RA40 or something?

there is a little spot weld removal drill available it drills out the spot weld very neatly
and when it all goe's back together just mig it back through the hole , easy as i am doing a job in yarrambat this afrtenoon do you want me to show you what i mean

Mig'ing woudl be nice, but I dont' have a welder nor can I weld. :-(

Wouldn't mind you swinging past and showing me, but I won't be home until at least 6. Suspect you don't want ot hang around that long. ;-)
