    Default Suspension on TA22

    Hey there

I am now close to start upgrading my suspension on my TA22, but i have absolutely no idea as where to get the parts i need. I am going for some kind of plug and play installation, so no "i-will-modify-everything" solutions

Have been searching the web, but since i dont know what fits, i cant find anything.

I am looking for new balljoints for the front, new dampers, lowering springs. and a set of caster/camber adjustable strut tops.

I am also in need of upgrading the rear with swaybars, dampers and springs.

Any links and stuff like that would be much appriciated

Ohhhhh....almost forgot.... Does the ta22 share suspension with the KE20 or KE30? Heard something about an AE86 front struts will fit? Is that correct?

as far as I know any strut can be bolted in place of another on a Toyota if you have the right steering arms. However some have a different steering angle from the strut to the axle and mess up your geometry. All RWD excluding the crowns and some other non common models all share the same design more or less. You can fit the ae86 struts no problem at all but it's very likely you will need to get the steering arms as well.

    Good morning Denmark

I don't think there is one thread here that is dedicated to suspension upgrades on a TA22 Celica, or even a first generation Celica. Lots of discussion about suspension set up occurs in the Classic Celica Dedicated thread, and also in people's ride threads.

There is this one but its thin on content as yet and a RA23 is not quite the same as a TA22:

    http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55298

As for upgrades, in Australia it is quite common to use a Corona XT130/RT132 strut housing, which gives a better choice of 52mm strut inserts than what you can do with the standard strut on a TA22, and also has the side benefit of being able to upgrade the brakes, as seen in this thread:

    http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=13803

    another option is this one

    http://www.toymods.net/forums/showth...t=%24250+brake

If I were you, I would look at putting either Koni or KYB inserts in the front, and the same brand in the rear.

Springs - we can buy them from a couple of places, but King Springs are common - www.kingsprings.com.au . If you keep an eye on the classifieds they will come up second hand pretty often, then you will just need to convince someone to post them to you in Denmark.

Adjustable strut tops will probably only work if you go to coil-overs in the front, otherwise the top spring hat and size of the spring will not allow much adjustment. That said if you want them, Cusco make them for TA22's and can be sourced from www.ajps.com.au

TechnoToyTuning also do an adjustable top hat but its best when combined with their coil over kit and top hat kit. http://www.technotoytuning.com/index2.php

Balljoints and the like are still available from auto parts shops here, though are getting harder to find, so its a bit hard to point you in a particular direction with those.

Sway bars can be obtained from www.whiteline.com.au or www.selbys.com.au

Sorry my links are mostly to Australian companies, but that is what I know!

As has been said, there are probably other options out there too, as Toyota parts of similar era do tend to fit together.

People I think have used AE86 parts before, and later model Celica parts too.

    Thnx for the great links
Sadly the freight cost from AUS is almost 200$ so thats gonna f#&ck up my budget on this build.... I think i am gonna try sourcing some shorter Koni dampers and some lowering springs.

Am i correct when i say that i can use the springs from the AE86 on my stock struts?

Not sure - compare the part numbers in the king springs catalogue - if they are the same I guess so!

perhaps ask on aeu86.org They are a European based forum. Although they are an ae86 forum the components available are similar (tho not always directly interchangeable) and they may be able to point you in the right direction for local products.
