coil packs cracked???
if you have wet the engine while the engine is running it can crack the coil packs causing it to run like shit /not start
First of all people i know its not a ford forum all im after is a bit of help cause i have racked my brain stupid n got nothin
ok heres the story its a 95 EF falcon xr6, with coil packs, when it gets hot ie srive 2 the shop go in get stuff come out it wont start again, open the bonnet for 1minute and starts straight away ie something is getting heat soaked, when you go 2 start it on the dash guage cluster there is a red light in the tempreture guage lit on, when this is on the car wont start the guage is reading about 1/4 - 1/3 guage nothing out of the ordinary, smart lock light is NOT flashing there for its not smart lock, it did it 2 us once and i got the hose and wet the coolant temp sensor and the car started thinkin i fixed the problem, we replaced the sensor, still no go, and still plays up if anyone has and familiar problem please let us know, also starter motor got replaced less then a month ago thanks very much, problem was there before we replaced it.
Also High beam isnt working anyideas why all fuses seem 2 be good,
Regards

coil packs cracked???

Maybe i should be a little bit more specific, the stator motor does not turn over so it can not have anything to do with the ingnition or injection side of the motor, also i am a mechanic and i do know what to do and what not 2 do, thanks anyway
also has a brand new battery
so asfar as i can judge its either
Key and Ignition barrel points burnt - extremly unlikely
smart lock module - no flashy light so unlikely
faulty stator motor which is getting heat sinked - possible
bad stator relay which is getting heat sinked - possible
poor solenoid connectivity with starter wire - unlikely
it only will not crank thats all once we get it cranking it firs up and runs perfectly - well as good as a falcon motor can
The contacts for the starter cut out in the smart lock module (BCM) fail quite regularly. When they fail they WILL NOT bring on the smart lock light.
Get yourself a test light, poke your head under the dash on the center console side of the steering column and look up. You will see the plug for the BCM. In this plug there will be 2 red/blue wires. These are the starter wires. One is power coming from the ignition switch when in start position, the other is power to the starter relay. Check for power on these 2 wires while trying to crank the engine (prefferably when it is playing up). If you have power on only 1 wire, then the BCM is stuffed and you have 3 options.
Option 1, replace the BCM. This requires reprogramming of the ignition switch to the new BCM (no big deal).
Option 2, join the 2 red/blue wires at the BCM together. This will bypass the smartlock starter cut out, but the smart lock will still stop the engine from firing if some one tries to hot wire it.
Option 3, sell the ford and buy a Toyota
Hope this helps.

There is a great forum www.fordmods.com which may be of help on this one (thats where my name 'edwagon' came from!)
I had a similar problem and it turned out to be the inhibitor switch, they live on the trans and are quite a common source of trouble on the ea-ed series - may be worth a look?
Hi beams -does the blue symbol come up on the dash when you flick the switch? If not, switch fault, if it does switch correctly, then check the bulbs (sounds silly but Ive been caught overlooking the obvious too many times!!)
Good luck mate!!
so in theory shouldnt the car be fixed now then????Originally Posted by DazbaVBz

the neutral start switch would be a great place to start as these falcons are well know to corrode out the selector shaft in the gear box therefore not sending the correct signal to the nuetral start switch

its a crank angle sensor mate
Next time you drive the car and it does it pour water over the front of the engine ( around harmonic balancer) and it should start !
Have seen plenty of these in my time .

Could be inhibitor switch as others have said, I haven't had to change one in an EF but I have seen quite a few faulty BCM's.
Try removing the starter relay and putting a jump wire accross the 30 and 87. This will tell you if it is in the starter motor side or the ignition switch, BCM, inhibitor switch side.

Thanks people, 1st of all im not a trator and i dont own a ford, how ever it is my best mates car so delema, i will try the smartlock module thing, the one thing that keep making me look past it was once u open the engine bay and let some heat out it starts straight away, and that there is no flashing smartlock light on the dash on crank, i should also mention that when the key is on crank you can not hear any relays click etc under the bonnet so maybe were heading to the right direction, thank heaps people i will try it on the weekend, and just so you know i have 3 toyotas a '60 w-12ht a z20 soarer w/1jzgtte and a AE80 rola with the all mighty 2a-C
and i work at a toyota dealership so there
also carnk pick up is distrubutor which is nicely tucked up under the intake manifold and crank sensors that play up r normally on those commodore things
next time it wont crank, follow these instructions.
Turn key to crank - no crank
Hold key in crank possition
smack the lower dash panel(where the handbrake was ea-ed)
if it then cranks over follow what brad stated it will have a smartlock fault in the bcm
righton, have seen NSW cause similar issue - have asked bro who works at ford and thats what he said, "??? cheers rosie
