Default Diesel upgrade L to 5L in Blizzard

Has anyone swapped from an L to a 5L diesel motor?

My brother has a 1982 Toyota Blizzard (rebadged Daihatsu Scat/Taft), with a terminal 2.2 litre L motor, and he's considering a 3 litre 5L before it thoroughly dies.

If there's anyone who's done a diesel engine swap similar who may be able to give some pointers. Are there any differences in sumps, flywheels, clutches etc that may pop up? Radiator hoses? He's hoping to get a mechanically fuel injected one as opposed to EFI, but if he has to go efi, has anyone wired them up from scratch?
4WD sites don't seem to have much information (it's more in terms of lift kits, winches and big tyres), but maybe someone with an older Hilux has done similar?
Any info is, as usual, much appreciated!

All L motors are average but good for old people who dont want to go fast.
A 5L should bolt in place as all the bits from the early motors bolt to the later motors even the sump and pickup off a early alloy top bolts to a late tin top motor .
Would be a upgrade for a blizzard as they are light. Get a non efi model from a early pre 01 model .

3L has about twice as much torque as the L, so should be nice. Only 4 speed though still, haha! We thought about a 2LT but they're highly sought after and getting old.
A friend has a blueprinted 3L with a WRX turbo and intercooled in a Hilux, pulls along nicely.
Blizzards are pretty hard to find, so it's a keeper. Really good off road...
