Default sensor at back of motor.. broken :(

on my 4agze there is a sensor at the back of the block on the top rhs (roundabouts) that i have broken.. i figured I could steal the sensor off my fucked 20V blacktop and slam it in there and it fits fine.. only visable difference I could see is that the thread stem was slightly longer.. a couple of mm but it fited there fine.. is this going to work ok or do i need one for a gze? the plugs the same. what is it a knock sensor or something?

Can you take a picture of the sensor?

I don't quite understand where you say it is located?

When you say back of motor, do you mean on the supercharger side or gearbox side?

If it's the supercharger side then it's either the water gauge sensor or knock sensor.

As to if it will affect performance etc, won't know until we know the exact sensor.

gearbox side back of the motor (side to firewall) its the only sensor on the back, i would of thought if it was a water temp sensor it would be on teh thermostat housing :S

so up between the s/c and the block?

I think that may be the knock sensor then.

Can you get a part number off the broken one?

Going by your login, you are running a FWD. Firstly, you will find the biggest problem you have is that your car is FWD.

Aside from this, you need to explain what configuration the engine is in.

If the sensor is on the gearbox side in a FWD, east west config car then its not the firewall side. If the engine is in a RWD north south config then yes the gearbox side is the firewall side of the engine.

    So, Establish this accurately.

If the motor is in FWD config, the sensor would be on the firewall "side" of the engine. Then i would be leaning on this sensor being the knock sensor. Particularly as you say its the only sensor.

If the engine is in RWD config, then the "back" of the head would be facing the firewall and this sensor will more than likely be a water temp sensor coming off a water outlet on the head, not the block.

But you say block. So going by this vague description im tipping Knock sensor in a FWD config'd ZE.

    But in essence, explain yourself.

Agree with rally boy. Convert engine to RWD and all will be ok.

That 100% is a knock sensor though. I would punt on it being fine. They are just a microphone, the ECU does the processing of it.

yeh i hear the FWD sucks thing all the time, so stupid of toyota making this car fwd, a car like this deserves to be rwd, my dad wants to slap a cleavland in it.. pft ford lovers.
