    Default Modifying a 2SC

    Hi guys.
I have an 84 Celica with a 2SC...not the most desirable engine I know...but its all I have at present.
Any simple ways of increasing engine power ?
Am having a larger exhaust fitted soon.
    Any help appreciated.
    Rob.

a 3sge in place will do the job

just allow it the breath in and out and you should be right, maybe run a better fuel with some better sparkplugs and fresh leads should do the job also

Thanks....I have not had a good look yet but it seems to have twin exhaust headers...so a bigger bore exhaust should help.
Can I replace the air cleaner and if it has an ecu can that be modified ?

Bigger exhaust will help a lot....yes and change the standard air intake setup for sure maybe with a carby change.

    Rob.
I had the same car like yours back in 1997.
    It had a 2SC with a carby.
I had 'Motivator' extractors (I think they are made by Lukey) and a 2" sports exhaust system with a 'hotdog' resonator fitted.
The whole set-up cost me about $600 fitted. (Cheaper back then pre-gst days)
I found that the engine's power output improved just a little bit but it did sound great.

If you do get a system like this and you find it keeps making a really loud backfire everytime you back off the accelerator, you will have to remove the airpump belt to stop the backfires.

mate.. there is no ecu - it's a carby engine

a good exhaust and carby will make it sound great, but your power increases are going to be very small for the amount of money you'll be spending

pretty much you're starting with the wrong engine. and 18R will slot in there with an RA60 xmember for more power, or you've already got some good bits to begin looking at a 3s conversion, but I guess it all depends on what you want, and how much money you feel like spending

Most performance shops may sell one, or locate one, or you can get your existing one re-ground to change the duration.

Why would you suggest such a thing? Surely it would be cool but it is nowhere near helping his cause so why bother mentioning it?

Given that two other posters suggested an engine swap, when the OP is looking for a simple/cheap method of increasing engine power, I thought he'd be amused by the ultimate swap.
More seriously, given that the car has some slight rarity (see http://www.toymods.net/forums/showthread.php?t=55193), I would keep the 2SC, with better breathing and maybe a mild cam, as others have suggested. I've seen the car; it's a good find, and worth keeping (outwardly) original.
I'll pull my head in now.
