Default Zinc or cadmium plating, at home

Zinc or cadmium plating, at home.

    Has anyone done it?

I have heaps of good bolts and part laying around, most of them look quite dull. I would love to be able to replate them. It would improve the quality of any car restoration heaps.

What is the original plating on Toyota bolts and parts?
Can kits you buy plate to a similar quality?

Yes, you can buy kits to do a similiar finish to original.

    OEM is Gold Zinc Passivate

If you can't be stuffed doing it yourself, about 60 bucks should get up to 25kg worth done, so all your bolts, nuts, washers, and small brackets.

they can redo your hinges, striker plates- anything metal really.

I personally haven't used the home kits, but i have sent stuff away to get done, and it comes back mint

they usually strip all the previous plating off beforehand with an acid dip.

I may end up sending the stuff away. It's just that the platers in Hobart are so useless.

Know of any good ones in VIC or anywhere that deal with mailing stuff?

I sent some magnesium stuff to Hobart air port for some type of plating a few years ago, they also do chrome, cadmium etc. Have you tried aviation type places? They do that shit a fair bit. Or perhaps see if you can get ahold of the ones at hobart air port. sorry i dont have the details/
