I recently bought a pressure plate and clutch kit to suit the exedy single mass lightweight flywheel and the pressure plate was the wrong size ;( Ive never fitted a clutch in my life and my mate had little experience but we both are technicians, Im Avionics (aicraft technician - electronics) he is a civil engineer and has been working on hot rods all his life.
Now when we aligned the clutch the friction plate wasnst sitting in the pressure plate corectly we both looked at eachother and knew it was wrong. We had already spent 2 hours getting the dam transmittion off (for the first time without a blue book) so we did the unthinkable and cleaned up the old pressure plate by doing circle work with some wet and dry and used compressed air to clean out the dust and other crap(ofcourse we used masks).
We got the car rolling, drove it for about 50meters to get it of the hoist and its bitting well with good clutch feel. The pressure plate has 170km clocked on it and was slightly scorn but cleaned up ok.
What I want to know is will this be ok till I can strike up the courage to do it again? (maybie a few years???). I knnow the implications of the pressure plate failing and I know how it all fits together and works i just want to know if this will suffice?
