Default Assistance needed identifying an SA63

    Hi all.
I need a little help identifying a Celica that I have just purchased.
It appears to be an Australian (AMI) build SA63 with the 2SC engine.
The interesting part is the options which appear to be factory fitted and are as follows.
    Supra body flares
GT Sport badge to the glovebox
    Sport badge to the grille
Sport badges to the body side moulds
    Supra rear deck spoiler.
Not sure about the dash as to whether it is Supra or not.
I have seen one other of these Celicas on Ebay...wondering if AMI ran a limited production batch ?
    Can anybody please help ?
    Thanks.
    Rob.

Here, take a look at this... it's your chassis code explained... take a look at the post put up on Fri, 06 August 2004 10:56.

    It's YOUR chassis code! yay.

Not that it sheds much light... Wikipedia says the GT-S(port) was trying to inject some of the sports heritage back into a car that had gotten a little overweight... And thus was apparently near on identical to the supra of the time (and also apparently shared the MA61 rims!)

Anyways, hope that helps a bit.

Hi...thanks for that...From what I have read the GT S was a USA build but this is definately
an AMI car...maybe they built some in Japan and shipped them here and the US.
Its a bit of a mistery.

From what I read, the final Q denotes that it was an australian delivered model... most probably built in Japan and delivered.

Either way, I'd call it a very desirable celica.

thats not a supra wing, dash nor are they supra flares!
must be specially made for the celica.

I'm not aware of any SA63 coming with factory flares....are you sure they are original?

I'd be tempted to take off a rear flare and see what the underlying body looks like. The MA61 where teh flares bolt to is significantly different to the non flared versions. Even then it is possible that someone welded on the correct MA61 guard section for the flares....

Some other comments that spring to mind...

-Dash is Celica, not Supra. Supra has embossing kinda like stitching on it.
-Looks like it has Supra (MA61) seats at a quick glance?
-Badges (esp dash one) don't really look OEM in my mind...

To me it looks like a SA63 with flares stuck on it (And some badges)

Ah ok well glad you have rescued it.
There is another sa63 going around with the celica gt-s flares and ma61 rims on the car.i have seen it parked at cameron trucks place in bayswater also.this one is silver though.
Nice car though mate i've got a 3rd gen celica also.

I also have a set of flares from the celica gt-s from america in my back shed.
and a lot of the gt-s celica's came with the supra style seats in them.

its the same as this one

    http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Toyota-Celica...item1c0e67ed1d

i'd say its a normal AUS delivered SA63 with some aftermarket flares and badges.
doesnt take anything away from the car tho mate, good find, hope it serves you well.!

Hi...yes that is the one I saw on Ebay...it does have different front park/ turn signal lights though.
I have a friend at Vicroads who may be able to give me the details of the original owner.
The addition of the flares and the badging is too well done to be other than a factory fit.
Anyway..i will try and find out.

If you looked at my link earlier you would see that they are aftermarket flares. Australia never got any gt celicas in rear wheel drive. The reason that ebay car has different parkers and lights is that it is an RA60, they were like that. Has the inner guard been cut like my link discussed?
