Ah...thanks for that Dave...that is interesting.
I will find out about this somehow...its just too well done...eg the Sport badge on the grille has been made specificly to fit between the grille bars and the Delta mags have Toyota badges stuck over the Delta name plates.
Its one of those things...I have to get to the bottom of its origin.

    Hello,

The SA63 in question is a stock SA63 out of the factory. The build plate is the similar (as mine is auto) as my old stock white SA63 with normal gray velour outlined interior seats, black woven cloth inserts and a black dash (Trim code: YP24). Yours is blue (hence Trim code: YP84). All Celica's from my understanding were made in Japan (full imports). No Celica has been produced/assembled here.

It could possibly be a small run of Celicas may have got a custom treatment from AMI before the car was sent to the dealer or as a local dealer fitted 'option'. My SA63 too got the black rear sunshade but not identical to that of the MA61 and did not have flares (like Stefan's RA65). I've seen a few GT-Sport xA6x Celicas around in Victoria with a coupe around the corner from where I used to live. Just never had the opportunity to go and look at them closely as they traded the car up.

I wonder how many people has had their xA6x Celica/Supra since new as they would be able to tell us at the time of purchase what "special" deals or what options where available from the dealer.

I know that there was a gold RA65 with flares which if my memory serves me well was Ex-Ken Morgan son's car which had the fiberglass flares and a rear sunshade as depicticted in your photo.

I hope this helps puts certainty about your car.

    Cheers.

typical of toyota to release (in australia) a half-decent looking car - then stuff a grossly under-powered and asthmatic fork-lift/truck engine in it.

Alright just to outline this is Simply an SA63

    1. Supra body flares are actually made by fibremaster in Australia TOCLFL-263 Flares - Supra style (set of 4). http://www.fibremaster.com.au/toyota.htm scroll down.

    2. The sport badges and GT badges I mean cmon I've seen dealer cars with these kind of decals on them. The GT Sport on the interior and the Sport badge on the grill could have been lifted off any 80's Japanese Import infact I saw a GT Sport just like that on the glovebox side of a Caldina in NZ 5 days ago.

    3. Dash is Celica

    4. This does not have MA61 seats

    5. "the Sport badge on the grille has been made specificly to fit between the grille bars" My cars previous owner did the same sort of thing to my grille he took off the toyota badge and stuck the celica badge from the hatch on the front with some superglue. But he did it and it looks factory

    6. "Delta mags have Toyota badges stuck over the Delta name plates" Not hard for the previous owner to do.

    7. I have seen that spoiler before and I know that a few dealers did Infact sell the SA63 with a wing like that they are very rare but they exist. You will see that spoiler on some canadian MA61 L types marketed as a Sunshade.

To Sum up the car is just a collection of aftermarket parts and possibly a dealer installed sunshade wing.

I bet you anything if this car did'nt look good we would call this the work of some stupid ricer.

Fibermaster made a bunch of Aftermarket parts for the 3rd gen and they have discontinued alot such as their airdam which Flynix has on his car

Wouldn't be the first time Toyota Aus has stuck a crappy engine in a "performance" model, take the 5M-E in the MA61 for instance, or the 1ZZFE in the MR2

    wirysage, (josh) hi bud,
the lad who initially made the post - his name was rob (rallyra28). i was answering his question to my response ; see post #21

i'm not attacking you at all mate ; i don't know anything about 3rd gens, cept i like em like all celicas.

josh I have a friend here in VIC he has a celica which is absolutely identical to the one posted in the original post. his name is rob also - i just find it trippy that a dude called rob with the same car is trying to find out info about it (may even be him, dunno)

mrshin - was a friend off here (michael) - the picture that you posted up looks like it was outside his place in montrose where he used to live. IIRC he had one of these, but, it was many many years ago that i saw him. i saw the VIC plates and made the correlation

if i've offended you i sincerely apologise.

    Hi guys.
    An update on the SA63.
I actually found a similar car in Chadstone and allthough a coupe it had the same flares and badges.
The urgency to find out its build scource is not there now as the Historic Rally Association accepted it to compete in its current form.
We actually ran the car in the recent BP Ultimate Rally around Victoria and did 2200km through all conditions including sand in the Mallee.
The SA63 make a great Touring Road Event car as well as a great rally survey vehicle.
    Have added pics.
    Rob.
