That's really interesting to note... I've always been told that the N/A version of any turbo engine would have lumpier cams, and therefore worth swapping for a bit more power. seems i've been misinformed, or the rule doesn't apply to the 7MGTE
Measured by me.
My BC stage 2 intake cam is in the car ATM. I will measure it when I pull it out.
Looks like the 7MGTE intake cam has more lift and about 10 degrees more durataion than the NA cam.

"well I don't know what the world may need, but a V8 engine is a good start for me..."
How were they measured?
Shit yea, nioce job
So without a piston in place to find TDC how did you find theoretical TDC? Line up cam gears with something?
Just curusious is all.
good work mate
seems to debunk a lot of the theories about GE intake being bigger than the GTE.... dont a lot of GTE boys use the GE intake cam as an upgrade?
should probably also be noted that the GE cam was ex MX83 (was it?) as the ones in supras are said to be different. and knowing toyota crown ones were probably different again lol
Valve clearances all set to the same spec for each cam I assume?
|| 91 MX83 Cressida Grande 1JZGTE - Daily || 84 MA61 Supra 2JZGE - Track ||
I used both the timing marks on the cam wheel and the machined flats about 1/3 the way along the cam to determine the top dead centre position. I did a few times and I think I got it within about +/- 2 or 3 degrees.
The valve clearances ranged between 7 and 9 thou for all tests.
As far as I know all 7Ms have the same exhaust cam part number and only the GE and GTE have different Intake cam part numbers.
There is some info here also.

were all cams you tested new?

Note the exhaust cam (cam#2) appears to be the same......... 13502-42010

The BC cam was near new. The others were all used but in good shape. The 7MGTE cam was the most worn looking. Bearings looked a bit grooved. Although I believe the cam lobes wear very little in these cars. They must be incredibly hard. In the TSRM it shows how to measure the lobe height and all my cams showed little or no wear in terms of lobe height.
