Nice - I hope this is just as helpful for other people with older sunroof'd Toyota's. Sadly ours have the rust curse bestowed upon them.
Good pics anyway, rep up.![]()
Got a rusty sunroof on your Celica? Want to put a better one on. It's really easy!
After I spent a whole day pulling the entire sunroof assembly off a wrecked car I now know how to do it in a few minutes. And NO, my Haynes manual doesn't even mention a sunroof.
Simply retract the sunroof about 5cm into the roof so you can get your fingers under the front of the trim panel. Unclip the 5 clips by pulling down hard.
Slide the trim panel forwards while bowing it to get it out.
Now all the bolts are exposed and easy to remove.
When reassembling don't forget the metal spacers to get the roof at the correct height.

Hope this helps

Will need to do this when the guy on Ozcelica finally gets the polylaminate replacement panels, although first I'll need to find out why the sunroof no longer slides, just up and down

What about installing a sunroof to a car that doesnt have one. My mx83 wreck has an awesome sunroof in great condition but my 2j cressida doesnt have one. I wonder how much of a mess it would be if i was to change it over. highly doubt id attempt it untill i can afford a replacement car for when i fuk it.
There are companies that offer aftermarket sunroofs so I don't think it would be impossible to do. Personally I wouldn't bother, but it's up to you. There's a lot of work in a sunroof: proper water drainage, extra wiring, new roof trimming, etc. Then there's the structural consideration, which is important if you plan to 'fuk it'.
Anyway, start a new thread if you want to discuss this further. There might be some pro's who install sunroofs often.
