nostalgia is not what it used to be:
i promised myself i would'nt miss the next one but unlike in the movie 2012 my planets are not lining up, wrong time of the year
Would have liked to see u there Ian,but i might see u at hanging rock, unless i blow my car up this weekend, happy birthday to your wife, hope to catch up with u soon
just a quick question with fun days, or winton track days;
the cars you race, obviously they dont have to be road registered, but during scrutineering would they turn down something like a KC laser with VN commodore drivetrain? (all of it, not just the boat anchor v6) naturally if it's held in there with duct tape and chewing gum they'd give you a slappin for trying but if it was done with a reasonable degree of workmanship, but not done to aerospace standards... would they be alright with letting it loose on their track?

The scruitineers don't dick you for your choice of drivetrain. They dick you for things that aren't safe like loose objects in the car, old or worn out tyres, loose wheelnuts, oil leaks, stuffed seatbelts, etc. Common sense things.

1967 Morris Mini Deluxe (1330cc A+).
i wouldnt have guessed so, but a FWD shitter with what would appear to be a non ecotec V6 shoved inside might raise the wrong kinda eyebrows is what i was sorta thinking about
would you imagine they'd say "nah mate i dont trust that thing out there"? provided the diff wasnt held in with wood and the engine wasnt ratchet strapped to the strut brace?

maybe they will if you use ford parts
just jokin
as simon said
as long as the car is safe ,no sharp bits on the body work
no rust holes
seat belts must not be frayed
no major oil leaks
the thing that they will jump anyone for, is unsafe behaviour
i got a reprimand last time ,
there was a gemini with a c/dore v6 in it it went quite well
also you have to have a fire extinguisher bolted in, metal bracket not plastic
i advise to get there as the gates open that way if there is anything wrong with your car it gives you a chance to fix it
also there is a cut of limit for entries
another tip
have the correct money so you dont have to wait around if they are short of change
have all your documentation ready and with you when you pay your entry , this has to be done before scrutineering
ian
nostalgia is not what it used to be:
I didn't think you needed a fire extinguisher for the fun days?
Do you need the token overflow bottle too? been a long time since I've done one of these so I can't remeber. I know all the stuff for a real event. but can't remember this.
is there the secondard bonnet restraint too?
Oh and I'll be there in the MR2
guys if you go to the calendar section of www.tccav.org.au i have put up the winton fun day faq document that has all the info you need.
however regarding the car stuff
Scrutineering - All cars must have a safety check and receive an ‘OK’ sticker before going onto the circuit for
the first time. Vehicles must be roadworthy or race worthy.
.
Brake lights must work
nice, thanks chaps

Just had a read doesn't mention anything about extinguisher.
thats a plus didn't really want to put holes anywhere to have it in the mr2 for 1 day
yeah its a come and try type day for new people in their roadies, so i can't imagine they are expecting extinguishers, secondary bonnet restraints etc.
alas i am still without car (well, motor) for this one but $30 entry is awesome and i really wish i could go! im planning to be out again very early in the new year all going well
i had nearly bald rear tyres last time and they passed no worries.
battery must be secure tho.
i have just bought a set of slicks to improve my times, maybe i could just roll them around the track so i feel like im taking part?![]()
As a former Clerk of Course for the Winton fun days, Slim & Ian has given good advice about the car requirements. They don't care what powers it, as long as it is safe and it won't cause a danger to you or others.
This is a Fun Day, a 'come and try' day by another name, they want you out there, but only if it is safe. The blokes that do the scrutineering are well experienced in this sort of thing, I think you would be surprised at the types of vehicles they see. I recently scrutineered a FC Holden with a turo charged japanese motor of some variety mid mounted, that is the engine pretty much sitting beside the driver.
One of my good mates has a Datusn Bluebird with a 302 Windor V8 in it - get the picture?
Winton also have a FAQ's section about the Fun Days, go to Winton Fun Day FAQ's
