ROAR! 3sge Valve adjustment (shimming tutorial/how to ???)

I got a JDM 86' st162 3sge.

its got loud valve chatter noise (definitely valves), we tried a thick 20w50 oil with STP oil treatment and it 'quietened' it up, but still has a present sound. So no dodgeys, its time to check the clearances and 'shim' up these valves.

time for a tune up.But how? any tuts? any info?

Where do i buy these shims for the buckets over the valves?
Autobarn and repco sell em? relatively cheap?

Any help will be massively appreciated.

The steps are in the engine mechanical section of the manual.

Ive got a ST184/185 one on here, it may have the 3sge listed but even if it doesnt the procedure will be the same as 3sgte.

Shims should be available from Toyota. You just need feeler gauges and lots of patience.

according to the bgb you need SST 09248-70011. tho i'm guessing you can get something to do the job of pushing the bucket down to remove the shim from an auto shop hopefully.....?
