Timing Adjustments

Ive set my timing on the corolla, as per the standard 5 deg, but when i put the vacuum hose back on the timing seems to go up over 10 deg. Should my timing reading be at idle with all hoses connected? Or should i set it with the vacuum hose that it tells you to disconnect, disconnected?

Do it as per what the manufacture recomends ..

If you do the timing at 5 deg with the hoses connected you will find it quite sluggish especially if you stamp on the loud pedal low down as you will pull 5 degress straight out of the timing...

I personally usually add a couple of degrees to the basic timing as well, but just keep an ear out for any pinging after you have done the adjustements & obviously back it off if you hear any ..

Yeah i was confused as seeing after i put the hose back on it went up, so with the hose on i adjusted it back to 5 deg and it ran like shit. SO ive just re adjusted it with the hose off to 6 -7 deg (recommended for older engine) and its going good now !
