What i meant was that you said the ceramic coating protects the manifold against the higher temps caused by the wrap.
Which i read as you meant the ceramic coating helps keep the actual manifold metal cooler.

    Anyway.... on with the topic
Nope well kinda. Wrapping only heat stresses the metal...ceramic coating means the metal doesn't get as hot in the 1st place so you can now wrap safely...does that make more sense?

Ahh, yes that does make more sense
It would be interesting to test the outside manifold temps with 3 setup variations (ie, no wrap/coating, only coating, both coating & wrap).

I only have anecdotal testing from playing around with various 3SGTE setups

Wrap only = pretty good temp control but had the metal fatigue issue
Ceramic coat only = fair temp control
Both = very good temp control. I could touch DP after a decent blatt

Ceramic coating does the inside aswell, so it prevents the metal from getting hotter.

Hotter exhaust gasses result, as stated by others, which means that they don't contract as much, and for the same orifice size in the turbo, you have more velocity for the same amount of air. Thus the better spool.

as o_man_ra23 suggests - the only way stop heat transfer to the dump pipe is internal coating.

additional exterrnal coating of the dump pipe plus the wrap would make for a much cooler engine bay (and lighter wallet).

Ideally, you should internal-coat the manifold and exhaust housing as well.

+1 for Competition Coatings, good service, ok price, and coated inside and out.

i should've done the dump pipe and exhaust housing though at the same time.

I'm now thinking of giving the xr6t the full treatment (exh. housing, dump and manifold)

What sort of price would it be to get a manifold and exhaust housing coated?? The dump pipe is too big to freight for a reasonable cost.

from memory I paid $220 cash to get a 4cyl manifold coated with Competition Coating's black coating... more than the manifold cost to make!

Is it at all possible for the coating to flake off on the inside of the turbine housing and cause damage? Or is that being over cautious?

Nah, even if it does flake the bits are small and thin so no damage likely.

    Hi guys
Digging up an oldie i know. With regards to ceramic coatings or high temp coatings has anyone got anything done recently? I need to coat my steam pipe manifold and am looking for some feedback.

I also recently got my turbo housing done for $233. I found that a bit exxy to be honest, what have others paid?

I paid similar to get competition coatings in QLD to put their extreme temp coating on a 4cyl manifold I made, I thought that was expensive... The coating cost more than the manifold.

$233 for a housing is way to expensive, you should be able to get a 6cyl manifold done for about that money
