can anyone tell me if i will have to remove the boxes on either cars before i pull the motors id rather not
the motor was put in the black car in 2002 and has had 50k put on it since then acording to the dash and the engineering papers were ti was engineered for qld but done in nsw and it also has a redback cat and a realy dirty k&n in itOriginally Posted by Norbie

You don't have to pull the boxes out with the motors, but if you are using an engine crane its 10 times easier.
If you are only using a block and tackle then its probably easier to leave the box in the car.

im using a crane but i actualy want to take the box out with it since im going 5m-e auto - > 6mge manualOriginally Posted by CrUZida
you can pull it out as one you just need to be mindful of not scratching the S**T out of your firewall. just put a rag there or something. and yes easier to pull out as one
and keep a special eye out for power steering pipes. i got one caught on a bell housing and it proved a nightmare to find a replacement
definitely will need to be engineered.
Australian delivered only got the SOHC 5ME as mentioned above.. however the 6MGE WAS released in a MA61 body, but only in North American delivered 1985 Models, thus stalemating you once again because thats the US, not Aus.

you could be absolutely right.. i just remember reading somewhere that 85 models in the US got itbugger.. seems it was only a JDM engine after a bit more research..

Definitely JDM engine only.
And as I said before, if you are smart about it, you should not need engineering.
You should just be able to fill in a 'change of engine number' form.

Aparts from that in NSW he still probably won't have to engineer it it'll be a simple blue slip and change of engine numbers with the RTA as the engine is not outside the capacity increase for an NA vehicle and its up to them to prove the power figures, the 7m in my car was not engineered and was done via the process outlined aboveOriginally Posted by hamgatan

If in doubt power out
thats what i plan on doing do they do anyform of inspection at all or do i just fill in the form and its done??Originally Posted by CrUZida
Depends on where you go and who you get.
For my 5MGE to 6MGE conversion (btw you can't pick the difference in engine number between a 5ME and 5MGE, both are 5Mxxxxxxx), I just walked into DPI (Perth's RTA) and said I need to change my engine number, was 5Mxxxxxxx now 6Mxxxxxxx, she said hmm, let me check, rang up one of the dudes at the pits, and came back and said 'yep thats cool, he said they sometimes do that with Japanese engines'
But as Rona said, its a 200cc increase in capacity, and you have no way of proving there was a significant power increase.

doesnt the 6m even look the same as the 5mge with the exception of the intake manifold which mine is changed to a 5mge one anyway??
pretty much.
