The ebay kits slide over the old shaft from the stock windows. The long "stick" is made up of flexible plastic that covers the steel cable that runs from the motor to the loop gear that slides over the old splines.



That is the kit installed on the rear RA23 windows, works no problems.

Just make sure that your existing windows are all really smooth, otherwise the motor will have problems. I recently replaced the runners on mine, and found that one side was a bit tighter. The power window kit can still wind them, however it is a bit slower than the other side. Just need to lube the rails up and should work nicely.

my windows are crap, how do i make them smooth again? change the regulators? lubricate them?, cos if i can get em smooth id conside power windows for both front and rear if its possible for the rear

If you haven't already, check the little nylon bushes that the rear windows run on... You should be able to tell if your back window feels quite loose in its runners... If it falls down and wobbles etc when you're winding. There are some ball bearing runners that you can buy from Bunnings to replace these.

Your front windows have 1 set of these runners, they pretty much just aim the window to land in the correct spot as they are going up. The windows also have some rectangular bushes that slide in the channels, these can also be disintegrated. You'll more than likely have to get a chunk of nylon and make some new ones up with a hacksaw.

Also your regulators could be stuffed.. If they are crunchy, stiff etc... you may need to grab some new ones. Whatever you do, you're more than likely going to need to take apart the windows to inspect them properly. Have fun with the rears, they are a bit of a bastard.

Skiddz, check out riceburna's post on converting your window bushes to ball bearing rollers. Also, there is a place that makes lots of plastic parts here in Mackay, so i might hit them up for doing the track sliders for the front and rear of the door windows in the gen 1s.

Clod, thanx for clearing that one up... pos rep fo sho mate, this means that they will fit RA40 and just about any other toyota for that matter. What do they normally end up selling for and is there anybody not on ebay who sells them (I dont want to wait 10 days for an auction to end to miss out by 5c on getting some)

the way i read it, they go on the short shaft that the hand winder goes on, so they're universal(front and back). you mount the motor whereever you can, within the reach of the flexible drive shaft, and fix the head over the shaft, hey presto. effortless window shuttage.

these would also fit a lot of other early toyota's, like mk2's and corona's.

This is the kit that I bought, its exactly the same as the one that is labeled "Celica" so just search for power windows on ebay and see what is available.

They come with about 10 different adaptors that have different spline patterns for different makes of cars. So its simply a matter of checking out to see which one fits, then using that one on all of them. It also comes with all the switches and a loom.

The mob that I bought it from normally have a Buy it Now for around $130 plus postage every few days, that is for the four window kit. The two window is only $69. They also do normal auctions aswell, one of the most recent ones sold for only $81 for a four window kit plus postage.

I just noticed something. In the first Ebay link the Ebay sellers name is gtra40 and in the newer link he is so far the highest bidder. Plus in that one the sale is for all four wheras the first link is for 2.

So for all you guys who have got this running at the moment how is it compared to standard power windows in other factory cars and do the winding knobs poke out of the door card?

This is something I've always thought about doing too, but I want to have my back windows motorised too. Then I'd like to wire them up so both F & R wind up/down together.
Anyone with a '22 or '23 tried motorising the rears? Do RA40s have rear windows that wind down?
I imagine it would be a real pain in the ass to do, as the rears are an absolute bitch to remove/install/align.

Yeah, I've fitted power windows to the rear of my TA22 GT. The front ones were already on the car as original bits.
