    everyone is entitled to their own opinions and methods
    has anyone ever heard of a race team bagging another teams building methods?
    im not saying you were deliberatly bagging Big wad's methods, but some of us will say
    that it sure seems that way, to a certian degree, be it minimal
    owner of 1 ta22 celica green but not hybrid

    To be honest with you mate i didnt even read his post before i posted mine. And like you say, "everyone is entitled to their own opinions".

    i have used the copper spray before and i have to say it seemed very dodgey
    i never trust anything that comes out of a rattle can
    be it paint, glues, sealants and even fly spray, somthing to do with the solvents id say

    I thought factory gen3 3sgte gaskets were metal anyway?

    I, like a lot of others I know have been running 17+ psi with a largish turbo on a internally stock gen 3 motor for about 3 years and ive given it a pretty hard time with no issues, but its tuned on the safe side

    I've also seen a gen 2 crack a block before it blew even a composite gasket which may be the more limiting factor to ultimate horsepower potential, especially if the blocks bored a bit oversized..

    I've also seen a reputable engine builder put together an sr20 oringed and coolant ran out from under the head before it was ever even started. I personally wouldn't go that way unless there was no other option

    Factory Gen 3 gaskets are indeed, Gen 2 are not.

    Just to add my personal experience on a 4a.

    My block is o-ringed. I used a ridgecrest copper head gasket (f-in good company to deal with) and it worked great for about 12mnths. I then developed a small leak of oil between the head and black (from the gasket) which didnt stop.

    I used the three bond seal around the gasket both side before installing this new copper gasket but yeah as i said it leaked.

    I then turned to a MLS gasket. Still with the O-rings in the block. This worked great and due to the thickness of the old copper gasket (2mm) i gained some compression also.

    Made me more power and never leaks!

    Edit: note i have arp studs also but did use head bolts with the copper gasket, also note that i still have o-rings with the MLS gasket

    I concur with cuzzo, 4a decent boost, had orings, caused problems, ditched o-rings and o-ringed block. I went with a mls gasket and arp studd kit and it has been great since.

    we,ve all tried different approaches with different degrees of sucess .the lad asked a simple question and i endeavoured to give him a simple answer ,my mistake i apologise. jeffro ,can you please tell me how good you are again i keep forgetting,my boys just read this thread and reckon you are an oxygen thief , bit harsh i think. anyways i,m moving to qld in the new year and it might be a great way to learn a bit off you guns and reduce my tunnel vision a bit. lol cheers bigwad

    i think this disagreement has gotten a lil over the top.

    My only comment on it is that clearly due to there being so many engine builders in the world, that there is more than one way to build an engine, more than one way to use o-rings, and more than one combination that works.

    just cos one person says on thier engine the used one type of gasket and it work, then the other person says I used a different type of gasket and it worked, clearly neither are wrong. As long as they were happy with the decision they made and the results they got then they are both right!

    Thats my two cents worth.
