yes they do!!!! well it's not that significant..
but there should be at least one V shaped wire things on on side of brake pads.. they sit on the pad itself.. should be on top... and it pushes the pads apart... (explains the spongy thing.. the wire looks very thin and retarded but apparently it has enough tension to seperate the pad that little bit when the discs are moving)
as for the clips... i'm not sure what you're talking about (without pics) but i never leave anything out of a brake pad change i.e. clips, the V-shaped thing etc. it all makes a difference between a problem and a smooth run. Don't tell me the clip is the thing that slides onto the calliper? (another reason why the brake is spongy?)
