    Default Temperature sensor guage Q.

hi, got a prob with my RA60 celica and i'm stumped, its been to toyota for this prob before i bought it, they couldnt fix it and now i'm stuck with it lol.

Basically what happens is when you turn on the ignition when cold the gauge jumps up to a 1/3 then as it warms up it ends up in the red.

I'v tried another temp sensor and another dash with no luck, the engine is NOT getting hot as i have an after market gauge fitted as well.

does anyone know what is between the sensor and the gauge and how it could stuff up?

    cheers
    Will.

ps i know having the other gauge means i dont really need the stock gauge but i'd like it to work. its only done 100,000klms it should work lol

There is nothing betwee the gauge and the sensor.
One side of the sensor is earthed (through the head), the other side has a wire on it which goes directly to the dash/gauge, and the other side of the gauge is its voltage supply.

What are the chances that the spare dash you tried was also faulty (and likewise the spare sensor) ?

yeah, its weird because you can short the sender wire to earth and the gauge will read maximum, then you plug it back on and its perfect for a day and then the next day it will play up again. funny thing is, the spare dash came from the wreckers and the car had written on it that its overheating!
might try another dash me thinks...

    Thanks Cruz
