    Default 1G water pump

I did some damage to my 4runner a few months ago when I smashed an engine mount. The water pump has also suffered as I had to run the engine dry to get it out of the bush as it just couldnt be towed. The water is coming out of the teltale as fast as it goes in the radiator.

    1GGZE engine from GX81

Has anyone got any information on how to actually remove and change it. There is lots of stuff in the way and im not sure how to get it off the pulleys.

    Second question.

Where can I get one. I am meant to be doing a photoshoot with my car so its a little important that I can get one as soon as possible.

    Any help would be appreciated

Order a new one from Toyota. It might even be cheaper to get one in from Castle Hill Toyota or the like from Sydney.

Assuming it's like my GTE, I just started removing stuff around it. I had to remove my power steering pump and bracket when I did it because it was sitting on one of the studs the water pump is also on.

You can try wreckers, but they usually charge you a stupid amount of money from something that's probably half the time already fucked anyway.

They're probably cheaper and better coming new from Toyota. Not sure on the lead time though.

As for fitting it. You'll need to take the crank pulley off, and the lower timing cover and then you can un do it and fiddle it around the timing belt. You should be ablet o get it out that way.

Never get a used water pump... the seal usually has dried up and will just fall apart when it's used again. Never a good thing!

Toyota don't charge too much for them new, but when I bought one it needed to be modified slightly. One of the ribs was in the way of the timing cover. Easy fix with an angle grinder though, and it's still working to this day.

    Cheers guys

I got one imported through a toyota dealer in sydney. It was apparently the last one in Japan......

Is there anyone that rebuilds them, I was thinking about keeping the old one, get it rebuilt and use it as a spare, I have only destroyed the seal, the rest should be ok.

    Haha last one in Japan...

I dont know about rebuilding a water pump. Most of the time people just buy a new one. I can't remember what model my 1G-GTE pump came from but it wasn't from a 1G-GTE

I've just bought my second 1GGZE one from Castle Hill, can either get them quick (if you're lucky and $$$) or slow and cheaper over 4 to 6 weeks. It comes as a complete unit with pump and pullys as one. You need to pretty much remove all the belt covers to get to the bolts, which means taking off the harmonic balancer which will probably need a h/b pulling tool. S/C might have had to come off too i think.

My first new one died after only 13000km (1 month after warranty!!) still shiney!!, i think because of some stop leak stuff i put in the system for a hard to get to leak behind the exh. man... or it was a crap part.
Hope you find some info in this.
    Cheers

Mine was delivered to a remote mine site in WA from castle hill in 10 days...

I know what you mean by that hard to get to leak, When I put the engine in, I removed the exh manifold, made new gaskets and replaced as many seals as I could on the water side of the engine and modifyed all the pipes to suit my conversion, it turned out better than expected. I had to fix one of them as it didnt seal properly when I first started it up. Im going to have a crack at it on wednesday by the looks of it.

Please dont tell me the supercharger needs to come off, thats going to be very very difficult to get to, that just about means engine out for me.

Im going to take photos so I remember how not to do it the next time I replace it.

I think the worst part about starting my engine for the first time (besides the fucked big end bearings...) was seeing coolant dripping from the water pump. From then on in I learnt it pays to replace the waterpump on any engine that you have no idea about, history wise.

As for the big ends... well that would have occured before I got the engine, it made the bad sounds on the first crank
