    Default AE82 Window winder mechanism

    Hey everyone,

I've got an AE82 here with a dodgy drivers window.

The cog has stipped alot of teeth and other parts of the mechanism arn't working properly.
I've called all the wreckers and i can think of and even toyota dont list the 2door version.

So i'm stuck... it needs this fixed to pass pits.

Do any of you have any ideas... or know if a mech from another car will fit/work.

    Cheers,
    Craig.

See if a four door AE82 window regulator is the same?
    Cheers Brett.

failing that.. now this is a longshot mind you, but

there's a bloke in prague, czech republic

who's wrecking one, and because its LHD, it should be in better nick than a used RHD one

freight costs might be a worry tho....

if you're interested the US ebay item # is 260504627794.

    good luck.

    Got the vin number?

Can look up the part number on www.toyodiy.com or EPC and then cross reference to see what else fits (if anything :S).

If you play with fire, don't complain when you suffer burns! This is the biggest problem with uncommon, or imported cars... oil filters and stuff are generally not an issue, but finding non-mechanical parts, interior parts, etc can be a real carnt! this is exactly why imported cars are often hard to insure... because the insurance company can't guarantee they can repair your car properly and they don't want to write it off because of a little dent in the door that bent the window winder!!

Anyway dodgy window mechanisms are a fairly common problem on older cars, in fact I recently replaced the regulator on my AE82 (four door)!

I would be very surprised if the one on a two door wasn't the same part as an AE86, or at least close enough that you can make it work.

You may need to mix and match up it can't be too hard - may have to punch out a few of the little pins and use the part that holds the glass from your ae82, with the winder mechanism from the AE86 (or whatever other car).

I would offer to help but I don't have access to a 2dr AE82 to play with.
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....

I guess the 2door & 4door will use the same regulator. The best is to get an old stuffed one from one of the forum member who don't need it (I threw mine away ages ago tho) and compare to the one you have. If they look the same then you should be able to use it. The 4door one you can get them from many wreckers around the town.

Just in case, you might want to try bright shines wreckers or slims wreckers as well ... let me know if you need thier contact details.
