Hi,
Keep thinking that way, sunshine. Illusion is a wonderful thing.

ahhh.. Midoori Illusions.
.... opened so many "doors" back in my teenage years.
...... butt scratcher?!
yep many, many, many, many jugs of illusion were consumed back in the day
That's nice to know, but I firmly believe that it takes more than just "Toyota ownership" to fit in with some people. If you just own a Toyota and modify it for your purpose (whatever that may be) you're less likely to be involved with people who race their rides around circuits, or those that get along to drags, hillclimbs, khana's, etc. I approached YLD and tried talking to him a couple of times during the ToyotaFest about his Corolla (I doubt he'd have known who the hell I was), but both times he was engaged in some track talk to others.
That's only one example. Because I don't do anything significant like race my Toyota I don't feel I belong or fit in with some circles of people... having said that, I did have a few people from OzCelica and others from here surprisingly greet me and talk to me about my ride.
Now a lot of others on here will say yeah it's a FWD heap of shit, understeer city, it doesn't rip mad skiddz, what a yawn... I was the only one there with a 4th Gen Celica, and sometimes I can really see why, if we're held to such a low opinion.
Me personally I'm here to modify a Toyota; it shouldn't matter what type of Toyota, what year, what drive, N/A or force-fed... it's what I like to do, and I've been here since 2002 doing it. If I remember correctly, it's what we're ALL here to do. This is a common-interest group with some very cluey people in it. Do I care about what others think? Perhaps, maybe that's a downfall.
We all like to feel appreciated for the work we do and to be respected for putting in some hard yards to complete a project. I know the 4th Gen Celica owners and the adubber's get a decent old ribbing, and for what... really. But fair suck of the sauce bottle. Try putting the shoe on the other foot for a second, how would you feel if it were you?
Now here's where the knockers step in and say go eat a cement ice cream and harden the fuck up. Before you do, just remember we're all Toyota modifiers here. We all do things for our own purpose, and none of us like to get slagged off for it. I can't get along to most events because they're just too damn far away, but should I (or anyone) feel excluded by the people who do make it to these events? I believe this is largely where the clique-mentality is invoked.
You have to remember that peoples personalities on the forum are usually very different to what they are like in real life.
Its also a lot harder to make friends straight up in real life, compared to how easily it is to make an 'aquaintence' on the web. And from that aquaintenceship (is that a word?), you then form a friendship in real life.
In real life I don't recall anyone bagging anyone else out, unless they are good friends and its done in jest - and this happens on a VERY regular basis, usually once every few minutes at a gathering. But I can ASSURE you its all in good fun, and no genuine harm is ever meant.
People who bag out others and are serious don't tend to last long in a small community, as they aren't welcomed by the masses.

Hi,
I agree with Penny.
YLD is a lot quieter and a fair bit less handsome in real life than he is on the forums.
I don't do track, and I don't feel excluded when the track guys get together and talk about such stuff. Also, don't forget that quite a few years I was about the only one who did restorations to stock, while the main bent of Toymods is to actually modify your car. So, I copped some stick for that, but it's all just light hearted.
I stillg et ribbed about Ronnie for being a rather uninspiring stock auto LT RA28, but meh.. again it is all in fun.
I dunno why 162 owners cop flack over their car, considering that (my personal opinion) it is probably the best looking one after the classic celicas. It must be something steepd in the eons of time as it was around when I first joined the club. But Celica's have always been generalised and called hair dresser's cars... corollas called shopping trolleys.. etc.
Again, all fun and jest.
The AW11 knocking is something new that started recently in the forums from rival joking between different people. It seems to have gained momentum, but I don't think anyone is being wrenched apart over it.
You know me and we go back a few years to your Rav4 days and Dubbo, ToyotaFest etc and you know I'll talk to anyone.... unless they are french.
The cliquey thing of the club/forums still eludes me. I thought it was because I was invovled in things that I couldn't see the tree from the forest, but other people have said they have detected no clique... and yet others do. So... dunno.
In the end, you got a problem with your car, you know someone from here will help you, be it in the forums or out on the road. That's fellowship, not cliqueyness.

I know i come across as a douche on the forums sometimes but i still have not had any problems meeting new people and making new friends at the few Toymods events i do attend each year. I have not yet met someone that isn't willing to talk crap about cars and Toyota's. Everyone is generally super friendly in my experiences.
I think re: aw11 owners, we all got a bit bored with paying out the ST162/182 owners, and since the a-dub guys seemed to enjoy anal sex more than the rest of us, they seemed like a good target

Ya's think you'se are excluded????
Fuck, none of you young ****s come up to me and say hello. Only the ones that have been around for a long time do. What is it? Is it because I'm older than you? Fat, tattooed and hairy? Am I too intimidating? Is it cause I drive Crowns and a Granny spec KE20? Christ, I've been around here for years and couldn't put faces to hardly any of the names on here but I don't whinge about it. If ya's want to talk to me then that's great. I love a chat. If ya don't then that's fine as well.
What I'm getting at is that not everyone needs to be fawned over to feel like part of the crew.
Cheers, Greg.
Has decided what we knew all along - LPG is as much fun as cancer. Got rid of all his MA45 shit, put the 9" angle grinder through his black MA70, has a tidy white MA70 that BHGed after 2 km of ownership (thus necessitating a ground up rebuild with monster 7MGTE) and has a 7MGTE MX62 wagon as a daily. He and Ian (IJ - not 1J - on supramania) are thick as thieves - Ian is currently building an turbo LSA70 - quite mental.
LSA70.. that would weigh in nearly as much as the car that engine belonged in![]()
