    What is that gearbox????

If you look at your first picture of the engine still in the car, you'll see that the top of the head that says "toyota 2000 16 valve" is almost horizontal.

If you set up the engine tilt so that the part described above is level (or almost), you should be pretty close.
I don't think a couple of degrees will matter too much, but if you stodd the motor up, that could cause problems with oil draining out of the head.

You can check out his build thread here or here

I wouldn't be worried about the angle of the motor as it is designed to be on angle. As wagonist said it looks to be about the same angle as the factory angle. Is there going to be an issue with the sump baffling due to running it in north-south instead of east-west?

north-south: means engine is along the vehicle, like rear wheel drive (yours)
east-west: means engine and gearbox across the car, like the camry the engine came out of.

Looks to me like you have got the angle pretty good.

For pictures of the car this came out of, search for "SV-21" camry in the readers rides section. maybe some dyno graphs in there too.

In your situation, I do not think so. It depends how much room there is in your engine bay.

For others, the air intake, distributor usually are in the way and touch the firewall.
the North-south version of this engine has the distributor on the side of the head (or the other end), and the air intake faces the other way.
the coolant pipes are usually in a different location, too.

Hey, I'll get a picture under my camry when I find the camera! It's a 5SFE, but the orientation is exactly the same. The flat base of the sump is parallel with the ground though if that's any help for now. All the oil drains are on the intake side of the head, so It shouldn't have too many drama's.

That's right, girlfriends 5S is on the exact same lean. Last 3VZ I looked at was at a bigger angle at that.
Look at E30 M3's - HUGE amounts of lean for a NS engine.
The above opinion is just that - my opinion. It is not shared by any business that I am currently or have previously been involved with, nor any of their employee's.

Hey - Got you a couple of pics. Would need to get it on stands to get under the thing though...

Camera is level with the ground on the sideways shot, so they really do lean over quite a way.
