With a carby setup, a return does not become a huge issue as the pump will just slow they flow a little when it reaches a pressure... It's not an issue of the engine not getting enough fuel, without a return line, you have nowhere for the unused fuel to go. This being the case in a EFI setup where fuel flows thru the rail, instead of filling a bowl in the carbys.

Do the solex you are using have a return fitting on them at all?

it totally depends on the output pressure of the pump.. if the pump is self limiting to the correct pressure, a return is not needed...

as far as i know they dont but when i asked the witzl he say you must have a in out and return. im sure i told him i had a carby set up.

is it a problem the fact i have the pump and fuel filter in the Jack/tool compartment which means it is lower than the tank??

are you running a regulator past the carby, eg highish pressure upto and past the carby with a regulator(with manifold vacume line) after the carby adn a return line to bleed of the extra fuel/pressure?

You should have ran your filter before your pump, so if there are any impurities in your fuel they wont make there way into your pump.
Not a big issue, just thought i'd mention it.

Karl might have thought you were after an EFI setup, where a return line is a must. In pretty much every carby setup Ive seen (and I'm a V8 boy from way back) they use a high volume, low pressure pump which effectively cant pump any more into the carby when the float in the carby bowl shuts off a valve (kinda like a toilet cistern)

yup yup, but some carby pumps can do maybe 10 or 12 psi, so they need to be dumbed down a bit... most of the cheaper pumps are quite happy to struggle nd just get the pressure you need

either look up data for your pump, or stick pressure gauge on and see what happens!
