replacing A43DE transmission

Have a 1986 MS123 Crown which has lost all forward gears. It has the A43DE (ECT) box. Can source a 1984 Trans which is the A43D...will the A43D work in the Crown (which runs a 5MGE)....as series 11 crowns are harder to find.

Or Alternatively, MX73 Cressida's which run the 5MGE also have the A43DE...would these be a simple fit to the crown? or do they not bolt straight up/ wire up?

While I can't guarantee it, the A43DE from the MX73 Cressida should be very much the same.
I do have some photos of one at home somewhere if you already have the one out of the Crown.

The A43D will be compatible (will probably require some basic wiring, to hook up O/D etc, and you'll have to disconnect the ECT ecu), but I would only suggest it if you get desperate.
