Hey there.
some progress have been made in the restoration of my ta22
One of the issues i need to get sorted out is the steering. The steeringwheel is a bit tough to turn, and i have narrowed it down to the gearhouse mounted on the firewall. Dont know the correct english word for this piece of hardware (please teach me)
Does anyone know where one can get new parts for this particular item?

Pump up your tyres , get the steering box recon'd (cost me $195AUD at a CV & steering specialist place) fix the ball joints, tie-rod ends & get it wheel aligned.
They are old cars and need that to get them going good again.
Anyways steering box, if its worn will just make your steering feel very sloppy, i.e. you turn the steering wheel then a moment later your wheels start turning like a delayed reaction.
Just speaking from what happened with me, tell you what though once that's all done, it still wont feel great until you get an adjustable decent panhard, upper trailing arms(if you've lowered it) and swaybar for the rear.
Until the rear gets done it will feel like your fighting it constantly going down the road.
Its a sweet car to drive once the susp is all done. Honestly like a little gokart.![]()
as long as the steering is responsive the steering box should be ok.
what size tyres are you running up front?
the steering box may have been over tightenend. maybe losen off the grub screw at the top of the box 1/4 rotation at a time and see if there is any change..
has it got the standard steering wheel?.. if someones upgraded the steering wheel to a smaller item that will give you a tighter feel especially with a steering box...
other than that this thread already has all the answers you need =) .. good luck!
I've also found a decent wheel alignment can make a huge difference to the steering feel. So maybe get the alignment checked.
