    They came with 5S-FEs.

and +1 for the supercharger option.

    Hey mate,

    I'm with Josh....

You are just about off your P's... so i am assuming you are youngish.
Everyone wants to modify their ride, then you get so engrossed in what you are doing - you forget to look up and see what else is available/achievable with that budget.

I know you have made your camry unique... but why do you want a camry?
There was a very cool one at the toynats a couple years ago.. but still.

Any serious modification costs alot, and rarely adds much in value.. so consider the money thrown away. if you are prepared to pay that money to get a supercharged frontwheel drive family car... thats your decision.

But consider the option of selling the camry, and buying say a 2jzgte powered supra - which will make more power, handle better, and retain its resale a little better... They are more common, and more boy racer so that may not appeal.

Just do the sums on the value of the car, cost of the mods, as well as engineering, brakes and suspension. then have a look at what is for sale for that money. Then decide.

If sticking with the camry - id go the supercharger on the factory motor too.

    Cheers

dont forget that front wheel drives are much much harder to upgrade the driveline on.

ie... when your 200 front wheel killerwatt motor starts to chew up gear boxes that were designed for 80odd front wheel killowatts (maybe?) that upgrades will be harder to come by as well.

But if your going in with open eyes, and want to do something different - good luck to you!

One bit of advice i would offer, from someone who has spent alot of money on modified toys - only spend cash you have on modifications. dont get a loan, save it up. this gives you time to re-evaluate your chosen path while working for it, often with time to think about it, you will change the direction you were heading in. Also it means you will not end up with more debt on something than it is worth. Treat the money spent as a hobby, write it off..... and enjoy the good times that come from it!

    cheers

straight cut gears and twin plate clutches are never cheap... EVER, and neither is installing them

a single plate clutch will be able to handle the 300atwhp mark maybe even more, what i would do is just carry on with the idea of supercharging if thats what you REALLY want to do, which i think is a good idea if you want to keep your car, and go from there, maybe upgrade to a single plate clutch and see how the gearbox holds up driving it sensibly.... fortunately for you its fwd so kicking the clutch nd shit is kinda pointless unless you wanna be swung into a kerb..

buy a 1992+ model soarer. they're starting to go for around the 5 - $7000 mark for a twin turbo. go pretty hard, comfy and smooth, nice looking.

another thing to consider is how long will your engine last once you super charge it and how much boost are you planning on running through it. i'd be concearned about just plonking a super charger on a family car thats done 200 000+ k's (just basing that off my gf's camry of the same year)

did the work shops give you any kind of quote on the labour or cost's to do the conversion?

you keep it really unique and do alot of the work your self, least once its all done you can look back and say "yep i built that scary bastard" rather then looking back and thinking "wow i paid some work shop to do all the work like anyone else could have done"

people here will always try and help you out when you run into trouble.

do you know if the 2gr-fe (aurion engine) will fit into a camry with out to much work?

    Cheap power -
You'll make around 200 fwhp with a stock 5SFE with a ST185 GT4 celica turbo, manifold and dump pipe bolted on. Exhaust manifolds are interchangeable, but have 2 less exhaust studs on the atmo motors. It'll run ok with a stock 3SGTE ecu, but an aftermarket would be the way to go.

    Got money -
Find a roll over Aurion at the auctions, probably needs customs mounts and CV's though. You'll need to be good at the electrics to deal with a late model motor like that and not have it run away with the money...

Interesting choice. I know you're wanting to keep the Camry for various reasons, but I'd be seriously considering a JZX100, its what the Camry/Avalon should have been!

Ive had a gen3 3sgte in a sv21 camry for 5 years now done over 100000km with 0 driveline breakages. Standard widebody v6 e153 manual gearbox and inner cv's, standard v6 clutch plate uprated pressure plate

Cost about 7k to build but I did some of the work myself. Ran a 13.8 sec 1/4 mile at 106mph with standard 195 wheels, stock turbo, stock boost, towbar, stereo etc.. which with a boost controller and good tyres (even without) will easily thrash any factory supercharged aurion, pretty much any HSV or wrx and most sports cars from $80k up while using an average of about 8L/100km

Plus its definately more fun when people expect it to be slow.

An aurion motor in one would be an awesome drive, but I wouldn't like to attempt the conversion

just go for it dude.. be different, if you keep the cost down it wont be a waste of time.... no matter how badly people on here bagged me for putting bigger twin turbos and a supercharger on a 2jz im still going to do it once i get some higher cash flow thru my mechanical business.... and its gunna be insane, and im gunna love it.......

    cos its different
