hello to everyone on toymods
i own a 96 toyota camry vienta v6 and i want to get some power out of it was looking at turboing the motor that is in it which is a 3vzfe but gonna have to make all the parts custom which is going to cost a fair bit of money. i have looked on the web and seen camry's in america with engine swaps most of them are 3sgte's im just seeking advise cause im trying to build the car. i have looked at different engines at jap wreaks and importers i have a few motors in mind a 1gte/sr20det/3sgte which engine would you recomend to put in my car i will also be doing a manual conversion aswell cause the car is automatic. im looking for around 270 hp at the front wheels.
any information is greatly appreaciated

I'd also go with the supercharger option on the 1mz/3mz but not the 3vz. Or simply single turbo on the front bank and be done with it. 3sgte has been done many a time if your into 4cyl's, there's tons of info out there.
Also, why 270hp? why not 260 or 280? /endsarcasm
Kind Regards,
Kurt.

thanks for everyones input i will look into prices of a 1mzfe and find a supercharger for it.
a jap wreaker would have a 1mzfe woundnt they?
the hp i qouted in my post was just a ruff figure cause i want to keep the car as a daily driver so dont want 500hp at the front wheels cause it will spin the wheels everytime i floor it want a resonable amount of power.

There are a few options, but they will all cost money. There is no way you will manage this for less than $5,000 and more likely $10,000 or more depending on what you choose to do.
For those interested 270hp = 200kw so I assume this is the significance of the figure, also worth noting that with 271hp a Camry will automatically do this:

Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
Here's what you should do:
1 Determine what you are trying to achieve by modifying the car
2 Come up with a budget you are happy to spend on acheiving those goals
3 Tripple that budget
4 Decide if you're happy spending that much money on a Camry
If you get to the end and somehow decide you do want to squander a heap of money on a Camry the 3S swap would be fairly easy but in all honesty a lot of people remove 3SGTE's from MR2's to put 1MZ's and 3VZ's in them. If I was being forced to modify a Camry V6 I'd put forced induction, either turbo or blower, on the 3VZ.
what? No 2GR-FE option Josh?
though I suppose that they are still an new engine and quite rare and pricy to obtain.
It's more that I wouldn't waste one on an old camry![]()
fair enough![]()
fyi my beams conversion was 3K for engine alone. then u factor in the "oh fuck i have no crane/tools/etc" and you have another few K and so 6K might be the final figure. i dont know and dont want to.would i do it again? no, but AFAIK when i did the swap no one else had so i felt i had to. and plus i didn't think of the final outlay, i was more after learning how to do a swap for fun. If i really thought about the outlay, then i might have done things differently.
the biggest pain in the butt is that with all that power, you still can't use it all without doing other mods eg suspension, brakes, lsd which add up. either go in for the long haul (and props if you do) else save up for something more easier to muck around with.
3sgte would be the simplest option out of all your many difficult choices, dont even THINK about the sr20 unless you wanna spend around the 10k mark..
even tho there are heaps of mixed opinions in here, including shiftys (ROFL @ picture HAHAHAHA) everyones pritty much on the money, with a motor swap comes other due responsibiltys like slowing down the power, supporting the power round corners etc etc.
my best BEST advice would be if you really really REALLY love your car... then go ahead and make it a project but spend your money in all areas, and DONT do it dodgy and stick with a toyota engine for a toyota vehicle to make things easier for yourself... or sell the car and buy a better base, maybe something thats turbocharged already?
thanks everyone for your inputs and advice
this is my first car and i have already invested some amount of money into it cause trying to make a truly unqiue camry. went out and talked to acouple of work shops 2day and i have decided im going to put supercharger on the engine that is in the car have found a vortech supercharger that will achive the power figure im after so thats the path im going down.
the work is going to be carryed out by either croydon racing development or 'Dynamic Racing Concepts' (drc).
so stayed tuned people only 5months till of my p's then the fun begins
