biggest problem with a wiki or database is the vocabulary of terms and concepts - unless you nail that down first, either step will be fraught with complaints of 'i kant find anything'.

my work experience is that 99% of intaweb users search so badly they can't find their own arseholest, but a consistent interface and easily-to-understand 'language' cuts down the confusion to a distant murmer.

"There will be moderated posting privledges.... meaning that you can post a reply, but it then goes to a queue to be moderator approved or denied."

I can see your logic in this but if there is a decent amount of info in que wont this put even more pressure / work load on the moderators ?

It actually works out to be a lot less work for us that was as we then don't have to go and edit threads because of arguements that arrise from the wrong information.

This is how it works for the new dyno results section of the forums and it's working well.
OK sure people have to wait to actually view what they have typed and on occation have double posted because it hasn't shown up instently but they are easy to edit/delete the duplicate.

Just an idea, but if it's submissions based, then pending submissions could be opened to a rep defined section of the community. This would provide a means of screening by a selective collective (couldn't resist) of Toymodders and reduce the burden on Mods and the need to post replys in the finished product.

Assumes a submission based system though.

    Hi all,

I had an idea some time ago about finding info in tech threads, not sure on the difficulty of
    sorting something like this out.

putting everything into trees then branches like windoze explorer. that way people less experienced with Db searching can find what they want.

    eg
    ../Engines/2TG/
    ../Engines/18R/
    ............../1G/

    ../Drivetrain/Gearbox/W58/
    ../Drivetrain/Diff/F series/

    ../Body/Restoration/paintprep/

    any thoughts?

    cheers
