Default TT132 Help please, 1jz, etc

Ok so i picked up a cheap 1jz, was going to put it into a b1600
but the 3t in my corona has bent push rods etc and is to straight to get rid of.

Does anyone have any drawings/plans of mounts to fit a 1jz into a 81 tt132 corona?
Would I try and convert to independant rear end or just fit a hilux lsd...
how would i go about fitting adjustable suspention in the rear end...
    any help would be good...

    cheers

one thing at a time, forget about the 'adjustable suspension' for now.

as for the engine swap, i've learned the hard way that starting with an engine that you happen to have rather than planning a conversion with the correct engine & car will lead to headaches.

    I assume a TT132 is like our RT132, a liftback sorta thing & v early 80s/late 70s?

A 1jz would probably fit but your biggest issues will be steering box (assuming not r&p) and packaging... clearance for radiator, fan, exhaust, etc. This is a BIG project.

Its the same as the member on here : chris davey
    4 door sedan, 1981 corona.

but he has used the xmembers etc from a jzx81, i could get the front crossmember and subframe from a soarer but i think it would be easier to fab up some mounts on the original x member
definatly not thinking about the irs now, iv got a spare hilux diff sitting round so ill measure that up..
aparently its the same as fitment in the ae86

id be thinking that the corona chassis mounts for trailing arms would be different to the ones on a ae86.

to put the hilux diff in, it would be best to make a jig up with the old diff, then cut the mounts off both housings. using the jig weld on the corona mounts to the hilux diff. you will also need to weld on the mount for the panhard rod, swaybar mounts (if it has a rear swaybar), spring seats (if using conventional type springs) maybe also shock mounts.

dont forget to compare the track difference

you will also have a different stud pattern, you may wish to have the axles/drums re-drilled by a machinist back to 4 stud. may need custom hand brake cables and brake lines.

to use coilovers in the rear, reinforced shock mounts are normally used.

yeah, the diff will be the easy part and coilovers in the front will be no issue..
just fitting this 1j and the box im wondering if it will clear or not

well i can tell you from my experience, a 1jz is FKN long... looks enormous in or out of most engine ways.

also you will have more issues if you keep the standard twins, single turbo means these more room to work around the steering box. i have found this with my conversion.

i think your biggest issues will be the trans tunnle and clearing the the steering box..

as mentioned converting to rack and pinion maybe an option. a power steering rack shouldnt be too hard to come by.

not sure if this is much of a consern to you or not but it will be rather nose heavy. these a lot more weight further forward.

the radiator isn't usually an issue with most conversions, at worse the radiator needs to be moved further forward. with a conversion like this where there was never ment to be a 6cyl in there your always going to have to get creative with things like intercooler etc.

you planning auto or manual? i really dont know what the floor pan is like in these but it will most likely to need a beating to fit a R154 in there, w58 would probaly be fine as these came with a w40 or w50 from factory in some places????

The steering box is right under the brake booster, it doesnt look like it would get in the way, did the later 80's models come with power steering? iv seen one sitting down on a farm for 200... might have to go for a looksee..

yeah id definatly be getting a steampipe exhaust manifold made for a big single

Some Oz-spec RT133 Coronas came with power steering. (Same bodyshell as the RT132/TT132) They still used a steering box though.

the turbo's are obviously on that side, in most cars its fairly right around the steering shaft with rack and pinion. if you would have a custom manifold and single turbo then that shouldnt be anywhere near as much problem.

yeah that would be my 1st option, ill make up a steampipe manifold and go from there, shouldnt be to hard to get abit of clearance that way.
im just hoping the gearbox tunnel doesnt get in the way

TT132 struts will take MS65 Crown hubs so probably easier to leave the diff 5 stud and convert the front to match.

maybe not easier.. whats easier then taking the drums/axles to a machinist and saying i want these drilled to 114x4 ?

but either way would be an option. could be a opportunity to go 5 stud if he so wished.

I have an RT132 with a 1ggze, but the turbo's on the 1j might interfere with the steering box.
I used a power steering box from an early 80's Cressida...bolted straight up...just had to fit the original pitman arm to it.
As for length of 1j engine...if it's much longer than a 1g, it will be a tight fit
I kept the original crossmember and welded the mount brackets off the donor Chaser crossmember to it. Easy!
No tunnel issues with a w57 box.
