    Default VVTi 1JZ Help

Hey guys, Trent my bro just did a 100k service on his Soarer today, now when he got it all back together, its leaking oil out of the VVTi pulley, alot of oil infact. Have we put it on incorrectly? Any tips?

    Thanks

not really the expert on that engine but maybe there is a gasket you havent sealed well enough?.. or it could be leaking from the cam seal behind the cam gear?

Hmm, it seems strange that it is only leaking since the service? There is a little diagram underneath the cover for the spark plugs but its in japanese, and not exactly fluent in that language yet.

maybe its just telling you to use a certain type and model of spark plug, some of the camry motors ive seen at work have a little picture too...

i would say take it all apart, maybe he got the cam seal in the timing belt kit, went to put it in and muffed it?.. and he could of damaged it possibly

what i would do is take the top timing cover off and clean the engine, then run it and see if you can see it weeping

Did you replace the seal washer?

Also where did the cam seals come from?

I couldn't find a supplier other than Toyota (OEM) that would give the right size. CBC bearings etc all wanted to give me something that didn't fit.

Wilbo link to that PDF was helpful, He didn't replace the seal washer, but it just started to leak. The cam seals were gen Toyota ones, He needs a photo of one on TDC, we aligned the vvti pulley with tdc is there a knack to it? Now it won't start either after screwing with the VVTi, guessing this is why its not starting?

    Thanks guys

Page 25 in that pdf shows how the timing marks are meant to line up

Does it throw any check engine codes when it doesn't start?

Did you reconnect the crank angle sensor plug?

    Cheers
