I bought this box a few months back and noticed a bit of the casing around the shifter had broken off but didnt think it would affect the operation.
At closer inspection lately when cleaning i noticed that their have been some repairs or modifications done.Take a look at the weld..That cant be factory
Any comments/opinions.
Thanks,Gav

Most stuff we get here comes from accident damaged cars... it could be that it has been repaired after an accident.. or maybe used in a different car and needed to be lowered slightly or something.
If the box works, pretend it didn't happen![]()
Must.... avoid.... urge... to... upgrade... parts I haven't.... used.... yet.....
That bolt also doesn't look factory

Would i be correct in saying a dust seal should go where it has broken off around the lip?
probably been dropped at some stage, and broken the end of.. then someones tried to 'fix' it

Or are you asking about the repair on the shift rod? need to circle the weld you are talking about as i can see 3 in the pics.

The weld im talking about is just in front of the damage on the shifting rod that goes into the box on the 2nd pic.
With the damage to the casing i figured it must be a repair but also thought that if it was a little shorter due to the repair/mod it may have effectively given me a short shifter, but i would have thought that would be all about pivot points.

hey Gav,
I see what they have done! it is exactly how I did to mine R154 when I did the conversion.
They've shorten the remote shifter linkage, and move the shifter position foward. But when you put in reverse gear or 2nd gear, it wont go in all the way because it will hit the bolt (on the 2nd picture), that is why they grinded it down.
The only issue you might have is cant be able to put the plastic dust cover on but cable tie will works.
That rod, originally longer. It was cutted and welded to match the length with the remote shifter.
