Its always pretty hard to tell whether you are getting a low k's import engine I think these days.

If you want a workshop to do it for you, Toyospares are around in Melbourne and do this kind of thing a lot I think. They also charge a premium price I believe. But you are paying for their ability to sort out any problems in installing the new engine - often there are differences in spec of engine etc.

thanks for the reply silver but I have dealt with them in the past and had a friend get a changeover engine from them which had an oil leak from the get-go and needed another engine put in within a month, so steering clear of them.

my engine still runs but leaks a LOT of oil, and its done 250,000k so it's probably time to get a replacement engine, but cant justify reconditioning it as I know it's gonna cost alot more money..

    do research
    buy halfcut
    do more research
    do it yourself
    drink many self-congratulatory beers
avoid temptation to do celebratory skids while still cut

you'll be unhappy and poorer paying someone else to install a motor that's already 100k old.

actually, it might be cheaper to rebuild a motor as a 3SGE FWD half-cut with low-Ks is going to be expensive and rare.

seriously, you dont need to many special tools. the biggest thing is a engine crane or block and tackle. ther is a lot of 10mm, 12mm, 14mm and 19mm nuts and bolts. and a little no how and your done,
make sure you get the same series engine as i think gen three have different wiring from one and two.

    cheers.

ahah chuckster, like your reply. I have replaced timing belt, and clutch myself on this car already, so I may be able to do it myself. I am tempted at putting 3sgte in and my mates celica has this in his, but i promised myself no fast cars anymore, already lost my license in this car with underpowered oil leaking 3sge for excessive speed. Still got 3 months left of my suspension, maybe i should try and get it done myself by then...
or just fix the oil leak, till engine dies, and then bin the car
