Thats not gilmer drive dude, plus thats only an aircon compressor. So alternator, water pump aircon and crank.

With the harmonic balancer i would be inclined to machine it completely out of alloy, and get it balanced to say 10,000rpm or 12,000rpm, and there are a few places which will do that. When i go out to my machinists on Tuesday or Thursday i will have a chat to him about making up some Gilmer drive crank pulleys and see how much it would cost. May even take out a sample crank pully.
However, i would be intending to get them machined up for a 10-15% reduction in ancillaries speed, which may not be so good for those of you intending to use these pulleys on the road.

cool see what you can do...

these look spanky!!! V shaped belts/pulleys... quieter (maybe not what you are after ) but look cool!
large range of teeth numbers available too
for 8mm pitch, 33mm wide, you can get between 18 and 224 teeth.
= 45mm up to 570mm.. but many more sizes under 285mm diameter.

can you measure the size of the current pulleys (diameter form where the outside of the belt touches) and then work out the ratio of the sizes? that will make it easier to select number of teeth, and also helps with working out resulting speeds..

i vote this be moved into tech section too

    edit: link would help aye

Aye, ill be out in the garage tomorrow with the verniers and camera. Ill try and do measurements in the same way as you did yours for the calipers.

That is for the 4A though, i dont have any Ks, Ts or Rs handy. Sorry.

And i have put the request through to have it moved to the tech section, but no word yet.

    4A would be perfect....

if you happen to have an SC pulley handy too....

will the 2mm wide T belts be strong enough to turn the water pump etc? or will AT belts be needed?

i like the look of the Goodyear Eagle PD pulleys, esp for SC belt.... but i can't imagine they are cheap with that machining....
then again.... they come in finished or unfinished bores... might be lucky
water pump is a bolt on.... alternator doesn't really need to be keyed... hmmm

For people in WA (and over east as well I guess), I have a fairly large range of machining facilities availible, and if you're good with CAD that'll drop the cost a fair bit. From memory we've got cutters for imperial tooth Gimler belts, so food for thought. I might go for this with my SC14, stop the bastard slipping. Also, on the subject of harmonic balancers: You can machine them, but be careful it doesn't grab if you're holding the inside of the pulley. Best to find a way to hold the external ring in the chuck while you're machining. Easiest way is to press the external ring off the internal, and machine it that way. This is what I did for my 165mm crank pulley...

Very interested in this mate..Im sure someone I know has CAD experience to do them up for us...fark there would even have to be someone on Toymods Can you give a rough price on machining.fuck I can probably even get the aluminium blanks..

It really varies, depending on the size, the complexity, and mainly, how many you want. One-offs are pricey, unless it's simple enough to do in a hand lathe, but if you order 10 or 20, the price goes right down...for example, to make a GZE 175mm crank pulley out of solid billet (including material) was about $220, in a run of 10, but there was $80 worth of material there....

Ok, i seem to have lost my verniers, or at least left them at the workshop. So here are some bodgy ruler measurements:

I think ill either ring or email pies later today about getting one to play with for the water pump.

    105mm
    135mm
    60mm

    circumference..ish
    330mm
    425mm
    190mm

    5mm/10mm pitch belt
    66/33
    85/43
    38/19

    or for ratios, 1.737:2.237:1

Does anyone think that there'd be a market for a run of 10 sets? I can also do an SC pulley for the guys out there with GZEs and slipping belts...If there's a market, it'd be good to do a bit of a group buy. The more we can make, the cheaper it gets. I don't mind hanging onto a bit of stock if we can get an initial order for say, 10 sets, I could make 15...

Are you talking about the 4AGE ones or 3TGTE...Im sure there will be bucket loads of 4A potential buyers,3TGTE on the other hand will be abit more scarce..looks like at 105mm the water pump diameter is the same between the two atleast...

Oh yeah Takai, with those pies ones are they square tooth or V tooth pulleys?Im not that confident in them being what we are after...

Well i would be thinking that they are square tooth, which are the ones we certainly want. I think the water pump is closer to 100mm though, the crank is certainly 135mm as i remember that from a previous measurement, and the alternator is also 60mm. Thanks for the interpretations there stu, and the ratios.

The problem i can see with pies is that the range of pulleys that they have is reasonably limited. With the largest pulley size in teh ones you linked being 96mm.
Ill give them a ring later today to see what larger sizes they have.
