Engineering 1UZ/MX83

I thought i might put this up as i will need to do this soon and there are a number of other peeps considering this swap too.So i thought i would start up a thread that is for disscussing the ins an outs of completing this swap successfully and legally.

Getting my last 1JZ cress engineered was pretty easy if everything stays stock.There is no turbos or intercoolers to worry about on a 1UZ so it couldnt be too hard if its all runnig stock and brakes were upgraded ,,right???

Has anyone had one engineered with the 1UZ in NSW and what did it take?

I have 5sp and TT or SC plans.So im guessing it would be easier and cheaper to get it passed before the 5sp is in[and definately before the forced induction].

For those who are interested,I spoke to the same engineer that passed my 1J cress and he said it should be no dramas as long as everything with the engine is running factory specs,has a cat and exhaust noise levels pass a db test.

It will need a brake upgrade and JZX81 brakes will be OK as the 1UZ put out a similar power figure to the 1J from the factory

I also asked about the 5sp and if that would pose any problems.He just needs to know that the ratio's are the same so the speedo is accurate.

I might get it done before the 5sp.

This guy was hassle free[apart from going to Newy and back]and very cheap

.I think from memory the certificate was $160 as well as my other costs to meet his requirements[db test,brake test and $80 in fuel]
