    Default ke10 - sr20de

Hey guys im just contemplating buying a ke10 rolla and puting a n/a sr20 in it just as a quick daily. The other engine im considering is the 3sge. I am just wondering if anybody has done or knows of someone who has done either of these conversions as i have alot of questions to ask them.

    Thanks alot, Kyle

I wouldve thought most ke10 owners would go a 4age instead.
But the sr20 would probably be a better option over a 3sge (installation wise)

Either way it would be reasonably easy. The hardest bit i can envisage would be the trans tunnel. I doubt an SR box or a W5x would fit into the trans tunnel, and im pretty sure that even the T50 needs some form of persuasion to fit in.

Other than that it is a fairly standard carby to performance engine swap.

Oh and remember the brakes, they will need to be LOTs bigger.

Run a tape measure over the SR and your engine bay as all the SR conversions I have seen in KE20s or earlier models of corolla have issues with the height of the engine and usually have had to mod the steering components and drop the crossmember to make it all fit.

The trans tunnel will without doubt need to be "enlarged" to fit the SR box too.

Ah, true. SRs are pretty high up in that department.

I just meant that they were fat, nothing more. Power doesnt come into it.

I have no idea what you thought I meant but I was talking about a bulge in the bonnet to accommodate the height of the engine, affectionately known as the "power bulge"

Aye, that is true. But in this case the power doesnt come into it. Its just a bulge.

both SR20 and 3S are tall engines which doesn't help them fitting.
T50 will fit in tunnel but iirc the back needs to be lowered a bit (the rear of the box sits too high)
W5X.. i hope to find out in the future but if a KE20 tunnel neds enlarging, then a KE10 does for sure.

i thnk KE10 engine bay is slightly shorter than KE20... i think from memory it is 50x60x70cm MAX size... measured from bonnet/crossmember/firewall/radiator support
