Default My great Journey....... Feb 2010

    Hey guys,

This is not really a public event, but it is an event so I thought I might post it up anyway.

I might as well tell you guys about the trip I am doing in FEB 2010.

I am planning on a 2 month trip around most of Australia (except WA and TAS), and Iam doing it in my Celsior. I love the old girl so much and I know she can do it.

I've just done all the brakes (rotors, pads, caliper kits) and I am going over the car with many new parts over the next few months, and reco-ing the suspension and then fitting it out with travel gear for the long adventure (Water storage, Fuel Storage, cooking equip, food storage, fridge/cooler, Camper canopy (creates a room/tent that attatches to car), GPS, Spares, 240v power, fishing equip, generator, rack for Mtn Bike.

I will start, travelling north, going in this order NSW, QLD, NT, SA, VIC, NSW and finally back in the ACT. I am going as far as Kakadu National Park in the NT, and then straight down through the guts, Alice Springs, Coober Pedy etc....

Some say Iam crazy, and I would have to agree, But it's something i've wanted to do for years, and the Celsior is big enough, quick, comfy and has a heart of a champion racehorse.

If you've seen Eric Bana's, LOVE THE BEAST, I related to that movie so much, my cars are special to me, and are sentimental. I am a whackjob and I like it.

Oh, Did I mention its just me and my dog at this stage......

Any thoughts, feedback, suggestions, places to see etc...... Please post.

    Regards,
    JoJo

Yes let me have your MX22 so you don't have to worry about it while your away.

Either that and/or sell me the Xt130 with 18RGEU for cheap.

But on a more road trip orientated note it sounds like an awesome idea and I'm deeply envious of you.

Being a man burdened with Family and a mortgage i really should have done something like this when i was younger.

All i can say though is if you can take a good mate (Non-four legged) as it just makes the trip that much more fun.

Also lots of photos so you can do a huge thread when you get back.

Also maybe organise to meet-up with Local Toymodders in each state for a bit of fun?

    Cheers

    Jeremy

I am also contemplating this type of adventure.

What do you think it would cost?

Don't take your dog. Pick up a hot back packer instead.
You cannot take dogs into national parks, which is where all the interesting stuff/good fishing spots are.

I would love to do something like this one day.

Why have you excluded WA in your itinerary? I have only ever driven around the Margaret River region and holidayed in Broome but I can thoroughly recommend you see this side of the country. My brother recently came back from a three week road trip from Perth-Broome-Perth and he just loved it. He camped, he fished, he hit a kangaroo or three in the hire car... He told me me that he loved driving over 200km/hour and over taking the road trains. I think it's definitely a trip to remember.

^^Just my 2c... but I'm in this thread for the future photos you'll be uploading

Also, just a tip when travelling with your best mate. Be sure to look up where the local vets are before you head out. Never know when you may need to stop in and see one wherever you may be. I know we make sure we can locate the vet closest to our holiday destination when we take Ralf out with us.

Because then he would have to add another three months to his leave......'tis a freakin huge state with lots of cool places that can trap you.

I love road trips and from experience can only recommend the following......... lots of preparation and very little planning is the way to go...just go with the flow....and as pointed out you are not supposed to take a dog into a National Park.

Looking forward to pics of the nice places you find along the way.....

    Cheers,

    Pete

But JoJo is aboriginal and his dog is a dingo

Seriously though, sounds like an awesome way to see some of the country.

Watch the full series of Bush mechanics as Celsior parts might be thin on the ground in some places.

    Thanks guys.

JEZZ - Make an offer on the Xt130/18rgeu

    CUZZO - I am bugeting $7000 - $8000MAX

TOM FOOLERY - Good point about the Dog, I hadn't thought of that. He is a Pitbull too. He wouldnt hurt anyone, but people just think he is dangerous because of his breed :{ He is my best mate and I wouldn't go without him. I dont give a shit really, I'll get around the 'laws'...

LUCIDA - Iam not going to WA because as PETEH said, It would be a much longer trip and I cant get more than 2 months off work. I would love to go to Broome and Perth though. I cant see why I would care about vets. My Pitbull dont need no vet.

PETEH - Your right on the money there dude

YLD-16L - Lol, yeah bush mechaincs is whack! I've actually met one of the dudes in it. Yeah, Iam aboriginal and this is my dingo, What?

There will be heaps of photos that i will post as I travel my journey.
I am actually going to create a pic album of just all shots of the Celsior next to the "Welcome to _________ (insert town here)" signs that I pass through.
I should have quite a collection when Iam done, and the celsior can go to its grave, a proud car with much history behind it.

Keep any suggestions coming my friends, as I want to make it a very successfull and fullfilled trip.

    Ciao

better suggestion than all the towns; take the celsior to all the "big" items (big banana, big pinapple whatever) and photograph it next to all of them instead

    or you could do both

Nah, those 'big' thing dont really appeal to me. Locations are much more meaningfull to me.
