So it turns out i have the G54 series 5 speed in my hilux.....will it handle a 1uz, anyone used this box? Would i be better off getting s 5sp supra or tremec 5spd ?
Didnt even see a dellow kit for the G series box's so im kinda forced to convert if i want the 1uz.

The gearbox in the Hilux should be a G52, This is a pretty standard gearbox in the hiluxes.
My understanding is that they have the same bolt spacing as the W58, and this is why you dont see kits to fit to these gearboxes.

Personally, I am using a W58 behind my 1UZ in the hilux, as it should be able to cope with the power slightly better, but that said, the G52 should be able to handle the power of the 1uz OK, so long as you arent booting it off the line.
It should be OK for a temporary solution, if you are planning to go to a W5x later, that way you already have all the bits and pieces to bolt the W5x box straight up.

Also, have a look around, www.lextreme.com (When its back up) has a lot of information on this, there is quite a lot of guys that have done this conversion there.

I have also heard questions about the quality of the Dellow kits, so see what you can find, and make up your own mind on it.

    Thanks,

    Herus

Just double checked it, the plate that shows trans/axle has G54 stamped on it but i wouldn't know for sure. Mine really seems to be an odd one, one of the few with this engine/gearbox configuration.....1.8ltr 2Y motor. Still even with 300+k's on it it's not smokey or anything just getting a little tired

Hope it is the same as a W series will keep it in till it blows up most likely to save some sheckles. Thanx for the information Herus, cheers.

G5* = W5* as far as I can see. If there is a strength difference I think it will be similar to discussing the W55 vs W58 strength issue.

The only differences I noticed on the G were the side shift linkages and top mount for the gearbox (I was looking at a G52?? from a Hiace)

If you want to use your current box it should be fine.

I need a working 4AGE bottom end. Pref smallport GZE, but all others considered. Also complete motors.
Drift Volvo. Was fun. 2JZ next time.

If you're going to the expense of getting an adaptor made, i'd go something a bit tougher, my personal choice would be the R154, but there's plenty of tough manuals around to do the job.

You wouldnt put a 1uz in to have to baby it around, and unfortunately the G-banger will break eventually. Only advantage is that G52's etc are a dime a dozen... even cheaper for cash.

    Cheers
