    Default trans temp A340

    Hi guys,

Just wondering what my trans temp should be.. i have my trans cooler mounted remotely with a thermo fan on it, i suspect that under light-normal operating conditions, my trans isn't getting to temp, the shifts seem harsher than they should?

Yeah, i suspect this as well. Under towing conditions or giving it a bit of stick it shifts beautifully, but for about the first 10-15mins it shifts like a dog almost like the trans fluid is too thick.

Anyone have some hard and fast data on A340 operating temperatures. Shane?? MZ75??? Southo??

Well the factory setup is to use the bottom of the radiator to cool the fluid, which is at 85-90degC.
So logic says that auto tranny fluid gets well above that temperature.

would suspect that the bottom of the radiator would be cooler than that... hmmm food for thought though.

I doubt that the bottom of the radiator would be much cooler than that. However, I wonder if the radiator also serves as a pre-warmer on initial start.

i run two tranny coolers behind each front blinker. i dont run mine through the radiator at all.

i have a auto meter guage on mine.

i dont give mine any load till i see 100f it usually sits on high way running at 180f and when getting flogged on the street or on hot days it sees 250f

word of warning boys and girls, trans fluid loses in qualities once it reaches towards 250f i have done my last 8 gear box oil chnages when the oil has done less then 800k's as fluid is cheaper than a new gearbox.

Interesting, how quickly would you say it woudl reach 100f?
I just have a single stonking big cooler infront of the radiator/aircon setup.
Quite a squeeze, but it is in there:

Where did you connect your temp sensor in the system? I was thinking of putting mine inline on the pre-cooler line.

I have a trans temp guage on mine and the sender is located in the pan. I have 2 trans coolers in the front of the car near FMIC. Difference between mine and Shane’s is that I still have stock stall converter. Mine also doesn’t run through the radiator. I suspect mine is running a bit too cool as it has actually only come out of the blue area on the guage once and that was on the highway after about 45mins at 30deg ambient temp. I will have to check what temp the blue area is at but off the top of my head it is 80f. Will check tonight.
