Usually when things dont rev its the timing.
Check the timing and hook up the check engnie light
Hey guys iv just got my 1jz hiace going but very badly the motor has being sitting around (sealed) for 3.5years. It starts and idles but wont rev up without missing and backfiring. I can somtimes bring the revs up slowly but it wont stay at any constant rev but idle. Coils are all fine and has new plugs. I pulled off each plug to the coils and the motor did change tune on every one so i dont think its droping cyclinders. I havnt got the check eng light hooked up so i cant check any codes (will be hooked up next time it goes back to the sparkys). Its all standard apart from 2.5" exhaust, front mount i/cooler , pod filter and running stock e.c.u. I cant find anyone on here thats had a thread on anything simiular. Please help as i have 4 sets of tires that need the tread riped off them.
If its been sitting around for a while the injectors may be blocked up??
Have you had then cleaned up, I had an old motor not run at all because the injectors where gummed up. We had to snap them open with a 9v battery.
Sounds like yours aren't totally bloced but may just require a clean

Cheers mate but how do i check the timing ? I thought you could not adjust the base timing on these engines. What can play up if the engine has being sitting around for a while? it was running fine in the jzz30. Also it has a 450hp external fuel pump so fuel shouldnt be a proplem. it smokes abit and smells very rich.
Throw a timing light on it and see if it is firing 1 at TDC even if you can't adjust it that would be a way of making sure its spot on.
Fuel pressure I don't think means to much if the injectors are blocked up

Checked the MAP sensor plumbing and wiring?

UZZ32 Soarer - Active Hydropneumatic Suspension (A-SUS) & Active Four Wheel Steering (A-4WS) - cruiser
Is the Map sensor and knock sensors hooked up correctly and operational? those are the only 2 things i can think of when it comes to a 1j not revving properly.

Thanks guys .i can slowly rev it up and its ok but cant give it a quick rev or it just bogs down and runs like shit backfiring . Ok i got a small l.e.d with built in resistor to hook up the check eng light. Can i simply find the wire out of ecu and put the + on to that then ground the - or is it more complacated than that. Thanks for all the help guys this is my 1st 1jz and i think the 1st 1jz hiace in nz so keen to get her going asap
check the caps in the ECU aswell?

It's easier than that (For a quick check)
There is little diagnostic box on the side of the engine.
Connect TE1 to E1 (Ground) to get the ecu to send out the codes.
To see the codes connect an LED (Or small light bulb) between +12V and the pin marked W in the diagnostic box.
The ECU will connect the W pin to ground to flash the codes.

Cheers Wilbo666 that is ez will do tomorow . yeah i found two vac hose tails going nowhere , 1 under the diagnostics box and a T fitting under the inlet manifold right in the middle . are these hooked up to each other ? i tryed 2 hook them up but cant get my fat hand up there from the bottom dam van. thought i better ask before i skin my hands up for f all.
im not sure where the vac lines go, but look for a diagram on the net and make shaw all is correct. Did you put the plugs in or were they "new" when you bought it ? what type and gap are they ?. also see if you can get a fuel pressure gauge and see what fuel pressure your getting. and check that the map sensor is hooked up correctly or even see if you can get another map sensor. Look to see if all the cooler pipes are connected and arnt leaking.

Thanks every one all sorted now .the two lines that were off did hook up to each other and to the charcoal filter via a T fitting so just took the t out and got rid of the line to the charcoal fillter and shes away. I found a guy in town with a jzz30 soarer so just went though his one . Thanks again for all your help guys. By the way Wilbo666 my diagnotic box didnt have a W pin in it and all the ecu pin outs i get off the net are different to mine. 1jz goes great in my short wheel base hiace will put up some pics soon.
