Default less turns lock to lock in te71

hey guys have done a bit of a search and not got anything on how to get less turns lock to lock in a te71 short of installing a rack instead of the control box. anyone got any ideas of any parts i can use ( like the ae86 powersteering arms in non p/s ae86)???

what about when using ra60 struts cause i will be going to them in the not so distant future. or do by any chance the ra60 struts give better lock as is?
    cheers for any info

a guy named jesse converted his TE72 to rack and pinion using a KE70 steering rack im pretty sure. if you wanted to go the route then use AE86 p/s arms

No, a quick rack wont fit a steering box.... cmon, thats logic. Racks and boxes are different.
Use this as an opportunity to fit a steering rack, and ditch the box off the side of a cliff (into a rubbish tip so you arn't littering)

yup, go the AE71 steering, its much better than the old steering box, the hardest part is the crossmember it self, there are 3 ways you can do it. Swap the rack mounts onto your existing crossmember, or swap the engine mounts off the T series crossmember onto an ae71/ke70 crossmember (how jesse + me did it, see pic bellow) and lastly you can do new engine side mounts. The only problem is you wont be able to keep the block -> bellhousing braces

Throw that steering box in the bin, you will be much better off for it

ok so theres really no way to do it with the steering box. is the rack conv just a matter of swapping the mounts and then everything just bolts up (highly doubted)? or is there a lil more to it?
    cheers

Oh its definatly possible, u will have to rebuild the steering box with some custom gears, which either are mega bux or even more mega bux.

Shorter steering arms wont give u less turns lock to lock really, just more lock

The whole point is that everyone trying to say, ditch the steering box and go r&p your car will be better for it!

As for the conversion, go onto the old forums and search for "Jesses 3TG T-18" or the like, he has extensive pictures of the conversion. Ke70 rack, crossmember, column and everything. All bolt in (asside from the engine mounts). At first the steering linkage was too short but they are adjustable

Just use the engine mount problem as an excuse to stick an A engine in there at the same time!

Then it would just be a common AE71

Actually, shorter steering arms will require less turn of the wheel to get (x) degrees of lock compared with longer ones, so your statement isn't really correct.

Should read "Shorter steering arms will give more lock at any given degrees of steering column rotation and also more total lock at maximum steering rotation."
