Default Users changing the names of their classified ads to "SOLD, please delete" etc

I know this isn't a huge an issue but it annoys me.
Is there someway that we can prevent people doing this? maybe put it into the FAQ at the top of each page?
I understand that people are finished with the thread but couldnt it be locked instead?
I think the title should stay the same for when people are searching the forums seeing what TA22s have been selling for etc..
This is what im talking about:

    comments/suggestions?

It is also annoying when they remove the price.

Having the price left on there and knowing what people pay for what helps prevent everyone from getting ripped, I will often search the sold ads to ssee what prices are fair.

If people don't change the thread name to reflect that it's been sold then the moderators will have no way of knowing which threads to lock

Changing the title to Sold is a good thing IMO as it helps prevent old threads from being dug up from the dead.. Perhaps a good suggestion would be to add SOLD: to the beginning of the thread title, however leave the item name there as well?

I'm pretty sure that the author of a thread can choose to lock/unlock it themselves.

Agreed, and that was the example used up top! Knowing it is sold prevents you from getting excited about something that aint for sale.

my geuss is most ppls intensions is to save bandwith and delete pics. being lazy they delete everything...

maybe in the faq it shud be mentioned that once its sold, report it. lock it. and remove links to and from it...?
    but leave or the info...

If people don't change the thread name to reflect that it's been sold then the moderators will have no way of knowing which threads to lock
u can lick the 'report to moderator' button so that they know that its time to lock the thread... but like ace says up top. but a big ol SOLD infront would make these things easier for everyone...

1st two posts have hit the nail on the head.

When your searching for something, especially pricing of items sold in the past and you cant find it because theyve changed the topic to sold... so then your search for 'within thread' and find that theyve also removed the price and replaced with SOLD.

    Very anoying.

    My suggestion is

    [SOLD]original topic title remains[SOLD]

in brackets either side of their original title.

I'm pretty sure that feature has been removed.

Also, I'm for deleting threads in the Classifieds section after no posts for say, 3 months.
We don't need 2 years of classifieds, and it stops old threads being dragged up.
Anyone who frequented the classifieds on the old forums knew how often that happened.

Ideally what I'd like to have a function to just lock all for sale threads with no replies for 30 days or more. This stops people digging up old for sale threads and also leaves the threads there as a resource to look back on later.

Johstix, wouldn't that lead to an endless string of bump messages?

I don't see any good reason why it would. Seriously if there is absolutely no interest in what you have to say for a month then it's most likely not going to sell due to bumping it.

i know on street commodores, all that is allowed is the posting of the original message, no replies allowed, if you lower price etc. you just edit original post.
all negotiating is done via PM
would be something for admin/mods/club members to discuss.

Pretty sure we discussed something like this in the past and there's some good and bad things about it as well..

Obviously some people like to see the values that similar items have sold for in the past (as shown above) and there were a couple of other downsides as well.. Personally I like it, but if a system can be implemented that automatically deletes old inactive threads then that would be super

Thanks to all the people who agreed with me, admins it look like your on the right track.
So what we need is finished threads (sold or probs not going to be sold) to be locked, I don't think they should be deleted unless theres a forum memory issue.....

searching also includes text within the threads not just titles.

so as long as all text reffering to the item isnt deleted from the title and within the thread, searching for the above mentioned reasons is still quite doable.
