Default Replacing gen1 3SGE clutch (How Hard?)

    Hi Guyz,
I was just wondering how hard it is to replace a stock gen1 3SGE's clutch? I know its fwd and I know its an east west engine, so what is involved in changing the clutch?

Is there a tutorial anywhere from which I may seek guidance from?

    Thanx Heaps Guys

takes me 4 - 5 hours from start to go working alone

pretty hard job if it's your first time though...

    1. raise car onto jack stands

    2. remove wheels

    3. crack CV carrier nuts

    4. Unbolt rear E-W crossmember

    5. unbolt ball joint from lower control arm, swing hub out and remove cv from hub

    6. drain gearbox oil

    7. pop CV's out of the box on the passenger side - on the drivers side release the circlip on the carrier and it will simply slide out

    8. remove shifter cables - 2 parts to this
8.1 remove the circlip that connects them to the actuators
8.2 remove the C clips that hold them to the gearbox

    9. Disconnect the speedo drive

    10. unbolt the clutch slave cylinder and lines that hold it to gearbox - hang it somewhere in the bay

    11. disconnect reverse sensor plug

    12. disconnect battery

    13. disconnect and unbolt starter motor

    14. support the sump of the engine with a block of wood and a jack

    15. unbolt N-S engine mounts from crossmember, unbolt N-S crossmember and move it out of the way

    16. go around the bellhousing and remove all the bolts

    17. support gearbox with a second jack

    18. unbolt passenger side gearbox mount

    19. gearbox should now come out

    20. remove clutch

and do it all again in reverse
    I am the sun

Samet - you've asked a heap of questions on here, nothing wrong with that but all of this has been covered befoire in tech section and in the st162 dedicated thread. I suggest you do a search first and also go down to your local autobarn, repco etc and get a haynes workshop manual. Invaluable for working on the 162.

PS - congrats on getting into a 162. If its your first car, keep the motor stock other than extractors, exhaust and filter, mess with the timing and put your dollars into redoing all of the suspensions, bushes, brakes and tyres as they are no doubt the original items
