ST162 3SGE ECU Upgrade
Hi Again People,
I just wanted to ask you guys and get your opinions on replacing the stock AU model ECU of the st162 to something of the JDM type. There arent many celica JDM ECU's out there, but there are heaps of 1990 Model 3SGE MR2 ECU's.
I'd like to know whether or not the 1990 3SGE MR2 ECU will work with the 1986 3SGE Celica Engine (Both Manual btw)?
Was the 1990 MR2 a gen1 or gen2 3SGE?
Thanx a mill guys!

Re: ST162 3SGE ECU Upgrade
What would be the point in swapping to an MR2 ECU?

Re: ST162 3SGE ECU Upgrade
1990 MR2 - assuming you mean SW20 - was gen 2 3sge. ECU will not work with a celica gen 1 3sge.
If you're that keen on keeping the gen 1 in there and want to do something with the ECU, get either a JDM st162 ecu, or go aftermarket. Any performance gains will be fairly minimal unless you do supporting mods to the engine.
XR_Pilot on these forums did some back to back testing of different ECU's for gen 1 3SGE a year or two ago, I think the results of them are in the ST162 dedicated thread in general car area if you search for it.

Re: ST162 3SGE ECU Upgrade
Let me rephrase. What is the point in swapping one stock ECU for another? You'd be better off getting an SAFC or similar and modifying the tune of your one. Even gains from that are likely to be minimal at best.
